{"id":107175,"date":"2024-09-26T08:20:57","date_gmt":"2024-09-26T01:20:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=107175"},"modified":"2024-09-26T08:20:57","modified_gmt":"2024-09-26T01:20:57","slug":"boeing-factory-workers-pressured-to-prioritize-speed-over-quality-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=107175","title":{"rendered":"Boeing factory workers pressured to prioritize speed over quality: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"dateline\">WASHINGTON \u2014 <\/span>Boeing workers felt a pressure to prioritize production speed over quality, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsgac.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024.9.25-PSI-Hearing-FAA-Boeing-Oversight-Majority-Staff-Background-Memo-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.hsgac.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024.9.25-PSI-Hearing-FAA-Boeing-Oversight-Majority-Staff-Background-Memo-2.pdf\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">results of a U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee (PSI) special investigation<\/a> released Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The report, which also found that Boeing factory workers said they did not receive enough training for work, was published ahead of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsgac.senate.gov\/subcommittees\/investigations\/hearings\/faa-oversight-of-boeings-broken-safety-culture\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.hsgac.senate.gov\/subcommittees\/investigations\/hearings\/faa-oversight-of-boeings-broken-safety-culture\/\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">hearing Wednesday with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Michael Whitaker<\/a>. The hearing is the third in an ongoing inquiry by the PSI.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Only 47% percent of respondents answered favorably to the statement, &#8216;Schedule pressures do not cause my team to lower our standards,'&#8221; according to the report, referring to a May 2024 employee survey by Boeing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The FAA recorded 23 examples &#8216;where employees failed to follow processes or lacked proficiency,'&#8221; the investigation found. The examples were found during a special audit from January and February 2024.<\/p>\n<p>A<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/eTlm7WT-XwQ\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/eTlm7WT-XwQ\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\"> door plug blew off an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX<\/a> plane in January leading to concerns of both <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/AbLHxsBwPdg\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/AbLHxsBwPdg\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">Boeing production and FAA oversight<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At least <a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/boeing-alaska-airlines-disaster-multiple-lawsuits-door-plug-flight-1282-737-max-fleet-passengers-safety-investigation-pacific-airport-oxygen-injuries-emotional-distress-air-pressure-aviation-loud-explosion-january-5\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/boeing-alaska-airlines-disaster-multiple-lawsuits-door-plug-flight-1282-737-max-fleet-passengers-safety-investigation-pacific-airport-oxygen-injuries-emotional-distress-air-pressure-aviation-loud-explosion-january-5\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">two lawsuits<\/a>, including a class action suit, were filed in King County, where Boeing builds its 737 MAX fleet.<\/p>\n<p>National Transportation Safety Board investigators found that <a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/alaska-airlines-door-plug-flight-boeing-max-737-9-jet-plane-jetliner-renton-portland-oregon-seattle-washington-preliminary-report-ntsb-faa-national-transportation-safety-board-federal-aviation-administration-safety-concerns-plant-regulations\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/alaska-airlines-door-plug-flight-boeing-max-737-9-jet-plane-jetliner-renton-portland-oregon-seattle-washington-preliminary-report-ntsb-faa-national-transportation-safety-board-federal-aviation-administration-safety-concerns-plant-regulations\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">bolts securing the door panel<\/a> to the frame of the fuselage were missing.<\/p>\n<p>According to the U.S. regulators&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntsb.gov\/investigations\/Pages\/DCA24MA063.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ntsb.gov\/investigations\/Pages\/DCA24MA063.aspx\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">preliminary report<\/a> released in February, the lack of certain damage around the panel, which is called a door plug, indicates that all four bolts were missing before the plane took off.<\/p>\n<p>The PSI report published Wednesday also found that Boeing continuously failed to ensure that parts that don&#8217;t meet specifications are appropriately documented and stored so that those parts are not installed on aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Boeing\u2019s quality inspection procedures and the FAA\u2019s review of those procedures continue to raise questions about the qualifications and independence of individuals performing inspections,&#8221; the report said. &#8220;In some fabrication and sub-assembly aspects of Boeing\u2019s production in Puget Sound and Salt Lake City, Utah, facilities, Boeing personnel are allowed to inspect the quality of their own work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The PSI added that the FAA told the Subcommittee investigating that inspecting the quality of their own work &#8221; appeared to pose an inherent conflict of interest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A senate committee on Wednesday discussed that report, which states Boeing struggles to train and equip manufacturing workers.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers then turned their attention to FAA oversight.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I worry about these reports that there\u2019s this sort of fratty culture between the FAA and Boeing,&#8221; Sen. Josh Hawley stated.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Richard Blumenthal added the FAA must do more to review Boeing&#8217;s safety practices, conduct unannounced audits, and ensure whistleblowers feel safe to speak up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The FAA can\u2019t shy away from holding Boeing accountable. We can\u2019t wait for another tragedy to act effectively,&#8221; Sen. Blumenthal said.<\/p>\n<p>FAA Administrator Michael Whitaker addressed that after the door plug blew off a plane in January the FAA changed the way it does its inspections.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are now six key importance indicators we monitor constantly that tell us how they&#8217;re doing on traveled work, on employee training,&#8221; Whitaker explained.<\/p>\n<p>But, the committee questioned whether that&#8217;s enough. For example, at the 1-million square foot facility in Renton with 12,000 employees, the FAA says it has 11 inspectors on the floor with a goal of adding two more by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The goal here is a culture change at Boeing and that is a very long-term project,&#8221; Whitaker said.<\/p>\n<p>Boeing is also <a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/boeing-employees-continue-strike-negotiations-union-labor-airplane-737-max-machinists-engineers\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/boeing-employees-continue-strike-negotiations-union-labor-airplane-737-max-machinists-engineers\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">currently embroiled in a contract dispute with its machinists<\/a>, where workers are <a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/boeing-machinists-strike-union-iam-district-751-picket-lines-puget-sound-pacific-northwest-jon-holden-737-production-facility-insurance-furloughs-kelly-ortberg-mediation\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/boeing-machinists-strike-union-iam-district-751-picket-lines-puget-sound-pacific-northwest-jon-holden-737-production-facility-insurance-furloughs-kelly-ortberg-mediation\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">striking for better pay and benefits<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The airplane manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/boeing-company-best-final-offer-union-leaders-strike-negotiations-furloughs-contract-machinists-picket-line-wage-increases\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/boeing-company-best-final-offer-union-leaders-strike-negotiations-furloughs-contract-machinists-picket-line-wage-increases\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">sent union leaders their &#8220;best and final offer&#8221; Monday<\/a> after a failed round of mediation last week.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the machinists&#8217; union have been picketing after voting <a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/boeing-machinists-face-pivotal-decision-accept-contract-or-strike-iam-district-751-kelly-ortberg-airplanes-labor-contract-company-increase-wages\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/boeing-machinists-face-pivotal-decision-accept-contract-or-strike-iam-district-751-kelly-ortberg-airplanes-labor-contract-company-increase-wages\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">nearly unanimously<\/a> to go on strike on Sept. 13.<\/p>\n<p>The union that represents aerospace engineers at Boeing also <a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/aerospace-engineers-union-boeing-furlough-society-professional-engineering-employees-speea-john-dimas-machinists-ceo-kelly-ortberg-iam-751-leadership-jon-holden-insurance\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/aerospace-engineers-union-boeing-furlough-society-professional-engineering-employees-speea-john-dimas-machinists-ceo-kelly-ortberg-iam-751-leadership-jon-holden-insurance\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">rejected a request from the company to furlough workers<\/a> in an effort to save money during a strike of 33,000 machinists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1660802\">\r\n<\/div>\r\n<script>(function(w,q){w[q]=w[q]||[];w[q].push([\"_mgc.load\"])})(window,\"_mgq\");\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.komonews.com\/news\/local\/faa-boeing-senate-special-investigation-737-max\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 Boeing workers felt a pressure to prioritize production speed over quality, according to the results of a U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee (PSI) special investigation released Wednesday.
