As <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2024\/09\/19\/october-will-be-big-for-apple-heres-whats-coming-next\/\">we detailed last week<\/a>, Apple is set to unveil new M4 Macs and updates to the iPad as soon as October. Will it hold another special event to do so? Here\u2019s what history suggests.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-970509\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-apple-october-event-history\">Apple October event history<\/h2>\n<p>Historically, Apple has held special events in October multiple times. Here\u2019s a recap of the last five Apple events that were held in October:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>October 30, 2023: \u201cScary fast\u201d event for the new MacBook Pro (14\u201d and 16\u201d) and the new iMac, powered by the M3 family of chips.<\/li>\n<li>October 18, 2021: \u201cUnleashed\u201d event, introducing the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.<\/li>\n<li>October 13, 2020: \u201cHi, Speed\u201d event, unveiling the iPhone 12 lineup and the HomePod mini.<\/li>\n<li>October 30, 2018: \u201cThere\u2019s more in the making\u201d event, introducing the new iPad Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac mini.<\/li>\n<li>October 27, 2016: \u201cHello again\u201d event, launching a refreshed MacBook Pro lineup with the new Touch Bar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As you can see, Apple doesn\u2019t always hold an October event, but when it does<span style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">, it\u2019s typically focused on the Mac\u2014and Apple has a lot of Mac announcements to make.\u00a0<em>Bloomberg\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0Mark Gurman has also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-09-06\/apple-sept-9-event-preview-iphone-16-apple-intelligence-airpods-and-watches\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hinted<\/a>\u00a0that Apple plans\u00a0<\/span>another event in October.<\/p>\n<p>One rumor has suggested that the new M4 Macs will <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2024\/09\/01\/m4-macs-november-release\/\">begin shipping to customers<\/a> sometime in November. The focus will be on the Mac as Apple begins the transition to the M4 chip.<\/p>\n<p>Apple is eventually planning to <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2024\/08\/15\/m4-mac-release-schedule-heres-when-to-expect-new-macs\/\">update its <em>entire<\/em> lineup<\/a> of Macs to the M4 chip. The MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro are expected to follow suit sometime in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4gGqvWC\">updating the iPad Pro in May<\/a>, Apple is also working on <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/new-ipads-fall-2024\/\">updates to the entry-level iPad<\/a> as well as the iPad mini. Both of these are likely candidates for an October announcement, ensuring that they\u2019re available in time for the holiday shopping season.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to new hardware, iOS 18.1 and Apple Intelligence are <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/ios-18-1-new-features-release-date\/\">also set to launch in October<\/a>.
