{"id":107275,"date":"2024-09-26T18:33:56","date_gmt":"2024-09-26T11:33:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=107275"},"modified":"2024-09-26T18:33:56","modified_gmt":"2024-09-26T11:33:56","slug":"mark-zuckerberg-to-be-deposed-in-sarah-silvermans-ai-suit-new-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=107275","title":{"rendered":"Mark Zuckerberg to Be Deposed in Sarah Silverman&#8217;s AI Suit: New Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/mark-zuckerberg\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mark-zuckerberg\" data-tag=\"mark-zuckerberg\">Mark Zuckerberg<\/a> really doesn\u2019t want to have answer some hard questions about <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/meta\/\" id=\"auto-tag_meta\" data-tag=\"meta\">Meta<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/artificial-intelligence\/\" id=\"auto-tag_artificial-intelligence\" data-tag=\"artificial-intelligence\">Artificial Intelligence<\/a> push and goals However, a federal judge this week has told the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/facebook\/\" id=\"auto-tag_facebook\" data-tag=\"facebook\">Facebook<\/a> founder that is exactly what he has to do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cPlaintiffs have made an evidentiary showing that Zuckerberg is the chief decision maker and policy setter for Meta\u2019s Generative AI branch and the development of the large language models at issue in this action,\u201d U.S. District Judge Thomas Hixson noted on September 24 in the potential class action initially filed by authors <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/sarah-silverman\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sarah-silverman\" data-tag=\"sarah-silverman\">Sarah Silverman<\/a>, Richard Kadrey, and Christopher Goldenm last year, and now including <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/ta-nehisi-coates\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ta-nehisi-coates\" data-tag=\"ta-nehisi-coates\">Ta-Nehisi Coates<\/a> and others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAlong with a more Imperiled\u00a0suit against <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/openai\/\" id=\"auto-tag_openai\" data-tag=\"openai\">OpenAI<\/a>, the writers have took Meta to court<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/07\/sarah-silverman-openai-and-meta-copyright-infringement-1235433077\/\"> in mid-2023 over copyright infringement concerns<\/a> that their work and books have been illegally downloaded and used to train the company\u2019s large language model AI software.<em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<em>Bedwetter <\/em>scribe Silverman and National Book Award winner Coates, along with other plaintiffs allege that \u201cmuch of the material in Meta\u2019s training dataset, however, comes from copyrighted works \u2014including books written by Plaintiffs\u2014that were copied by Meta without consent, without<br \/>credit, and without compensation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t With some legal wiggle room here and there, Meta denies they accessed the author\u2019s work for their LLaMA system. Meta\u2019s army of attorneys have also been trying to push the line that there are loads of other people at the tech giant better qualified than Zuckerberg to be questioned by David Boises and other lawyers for the plaintiffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIt didn\u2019t fly. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cPlaintiffs do not generically argue, as Meta suggests, that because Zuckerberg is the CEO of the company that he is therefore in charge of everything,\u201d the judge noted in his order denying Meta\u2019s motion to keep the CEO from having to face Silverman and others lawyers\u2019 inquiries. \u201cRather, they have submitted evidence of his specific involvement in the company\u2019s AI initiatives. They have submitted evidence indicating Zuckerberg was the principal decision maker concerning Meta\u2019s decision to open source the language model. They have also submitted evidence of Zuckerberg\u2019s direct supervision of Meta\u2019s AI products.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tJudge Hixon also stated: \u201cGiven this factual showing, the Court is not going to require Plaintiffs to exhaust other forms of discovery before they depose Zuckerberg. They\u2019ve made a solid case that this deposition is worth taking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tNever a big fan of being put in front of a microphone, Zuckerberg\u2019s depo has yet to have a time and date scheduled. With that, a hearing on discovery in the case just wrapped up earlier this afternoon in San \u00a0San Francisco that could see the deposition occurring sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tBy then, everything AI could be different, again. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tComing up on two years since ChatGPT brought AI to the masses, so to speak, the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/technology-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_technology-2\" data-tag=\"technology-2\">technology<\/a> is quickly moving more and more to the fore on almost all aspects of society and industry. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe results are mixed, depending on your perspective. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tOn the one hand, for instance, California Gov. Gavin Newsom<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/09\/ai-bills-gavin-newsom-hollywood-performers-1236091802\/\"> signed legislation earlier this month<\/a> to partially protect the likeness of actors and performers, living and deal. At almost the same time, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/lionsgate\/\">Lionsgate<\/a>\u00a0and applied\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/ai\/\">AI<\/a>\u00a0research company\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/runway\/\">Runway<\/a>\u00a0unveiled <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/09\/lionsgate-partners-ai-firm-generate-video-ip-1236093510\/\">a partnership on September 18<\/a> to develop AI customized to the studio\u2019s proprietary portfolio of film and television content like<em> John Wick.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWith a bit of a nose thumbing to the court and nudge towards the seemingly inevitable future, Zuckerberg was on stage today in Menlo Park, California at the company\u2019s Meta Connects conference to speak on all things AI.
