In addition to the civil fraud appeal, Trump\u2019s lawyers have argued to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/09\/06\/politics\/judge-delays-trumps-sentencing\/index.html\">dismiss the guilty verdict<\/a> in the New York criminal case, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/09\/05\/politics\/takeaways-trump-jan-6-election-hearing\/index.html\">federal election interference case<\/a> in Washington, DC, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/09\/06\/politics\/donald-trump-e-jean-carroll-appeal\/index.html\">E. Jean Carroll defamation verdict<\/a> \u2013 all in the past month.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1i85mtl00083b6km5sqjufq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Trump\u2019s lawyers are seeking to overturn the $454 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/02\/16\/politics\/takeaways-donald-trump-fraud-ruling\/index.html\">judgment levied by state Judge Arthur Engoron<\/a> in February, who found that Trump, his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, and his business liable for fraud, as well as issuing false financial statements and false business records.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1i85mtl00093b6kpjc0v0gs@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Engoron ruled that Trump and his co-defendants inflated the value of the former president\u2019s assets in order to obtain more favorable loan and insurance rates.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1i85mtl000a3b6krnhekeue@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Trump is not expected to attend Thursday\u2019s hearing, sources told CNN. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/04\/01\/politics\/trump-bond-civil-fraud-trial\/index.html\">posted a $175 million bond<\/a> in April while the appeal is ongoing.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1iguiux00003b6mmme12943@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The judgment against Trump was for $354 million, with an additional $100 million in interest that had accrued when the judge\u2019s ruling was issued in February. The interest is still accruing at a rate of nearly $112,000 per day while Trump appeals, and the amount had surpassed $478 million as of Thursday, according to a person familiar with the judgment.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1i85mtl000b3b6kxgbiyg0a@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The hearing will also give Trump\u2019s lawyers an opportunity to air their grievances with the 11-week trial held last fall, in which the former president frequently clashed with the judge, including while on the witness stand. In his ruling, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/02\/16\/politics\/takeaways-donald-trump-fraud-ruling\/index.html\">Engoron wrote<\/a> that Trump and his co-defendants\u2019 \u201ccomplete lack of contrition and remorse borders on pathological.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1i85mtl000c3b6ko2l575cb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Trump\u2019s attorneys have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/07\/22\/politics\/trump-new-york-appeals-court-civil-judgement\/index.html\">argued in written filings<\/a> ahead of Thursday\u2019s hearing that the monetary penalty in the judgment was unconstitutional and that most of the case against Trump should have been barred because the conduct was too old.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1i85mtl000d3b6k68u4t2xi@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The former president\u2019s attorneys raised several other legal arguments they lost at the trial court-level, including that no bank or counterparty lost money on loans, saying the judge made reversal mistakes in his rulings.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1i85mtl000e3b6kt7x3hfpa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThe award of $464 million in a case with no victims, no proven injuries, and no losses is not remotely defensible,\u201d Trump\u2019s lawyers wrote. The additional $10 million relates to other defendants in the case.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1i85mtl000f3b6kbh9zutjp@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The New York attorney general\u2019s office, which brought the case against Trump, has argued in written filings there was \u201coverwhelming evidence\u201d that Trump knowingly committed fraud and inflated the value of his properties on financial statements to obtain loans.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1i85mtl000g3b6kakxbtsed@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThis Court should affirm.
