The deal comes hours after jury selection got underway in a Wilmington, Delaware, courtroom ahead of\u00a0opening statements scheduled for\u00a0Monday.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1jpeh8s000g3b6mmcjd17hr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A loss at trial could have put Newsmax on the hook to pay tens of millions of dollars to Smartmatic, putting the small cable channel in financial peril.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1jpeh8s000h3b6m7y3l14m7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThis is a case that is a bet-your-company case for Newsmax,\u201d Howard Cooper, an attorney for the network, said at a recent pretrial hearing.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1jpeh8s000i3b6mhx3vm7l4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The settlement is the latest in a string of 2020 election defamation cases to reach an out-of-court agreement before trial.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/04\/18\/media\/fox-dominion-settlement\/index.html\">Fox News<\/a>\u00a0famously settled with Dominion Voting Systems last year for $787 million, and the far-right channel\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/04\/16\/media\/oan-smartmatic-settlement\/index.html\">One America News<\/a>\u00a0settled with Smartmatic earlier this year. Both cases were also about the same 2020 election smears.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1jpeh8s000j3b6m4jcpav9c@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Newsmax still faces a separate defamation lawsuit over similar claims that was filed by Dominion.
