On a yearly basis, overall PCE increased 2.2%, its lowest annual increase since February 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve come on a string of pretty good inflation readings over the last several months, and that was coming after an acceleration in inflation in the first quarter,&#8221; PIMCO economist Tiffany Wilding told Yahoo Finance. &#8220;So I think Fed officials are pretty feeling pretty good about where inflation is sitting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The report is the first look at inflation since the Federal Reserve <a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/fed-cuts-interest-rates-by-half-point-signals-two-additional-cuts-this-year-090036916.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:cut interest rates;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">cut interest rates<\/a> by half a percentage point on Sept. 18. In a press conference after the decision, Powell noted the Fed now has &#8220;greater confidence&#8221; in inflation&#8217;s path down the <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/why-the-fed-targets-2-inflation-125410034.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:central bank's 2% target;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">central bank&#8217;s 2% target<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Powell argued that further cooling in the labor market is now as big of a concern for the Fed as inflation.<\/p>\n<p><em>Read more: <\/em><a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/personal-finance\/how-does-the-labor-market-affect-inflation-205628202.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:How does the labor market affect inflation?;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><em>How does the labor market affect inflation?<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The upside risks to inflation have really come down, the downside risks to employment have increased,&#8221; Powell said. &#8220;And because we have been patient and held our fire on cutting \u2014 while inflation has come down, I think we&#8217;re now in a very good position to manage the risks to both of our goals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Friday&#8217;s data now comes as investors debate whether the Fed will cut interest rates by 25 or 50 basis points at its November meeting.
