The auction is set to begin on Friday at noon ET and end October 16.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000f356mrvhartb0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            However, in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Florida\u2019s 11th Judicial Circuit Court, 18-year-old Max Matus has claimed that he is in fact the rightful owner of the ball and is seeking \u201ca temporary injunction\u201d to prevent the \u201cconcealing, absconding with or selling\u201d of it.\u00a0<strong> <\/strong>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000g356misqjch93@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Matus claims that he went to the Dodgers vs. Marlins game for his 18th birthday and caught the ball, according to the filing.\u00a0<strong> <\/strong>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000h356mgri54jeu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            However, a few seconds later, the filing claims, Chris Belanski \u2013 one of three named defendants in the lawsuit<strong> <\/strong>as well as Goldin and Kelvin Ramirez\u00a0trapped Matus\u2019 \u201carm in between his legs and wrangled the 50\/50 Ball out of Max\u2019s left hand.\u201d\u00a0<strong> <\/strong>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000i356m1r6nrbu5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The filing adds: \u201cIn so doing, Belanski wrongfully and forcefully obtained control of the ball and was escorted out of the stands by security, with the 50\/50 Ball Plaintiff had possessed now in Belanski\u2019s (wrongful) possession.\u201d\u00a0<strong> <\/strong>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000j356mt6bded94@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The lawsuit includes screenshots from what it claims is <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/kaylanknit\/status\/1836919514937655734\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video<\/a> evidence from multiple fans of Belanski ripping the ball from Matus\u2019 grasp before lifting the ball aloft.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000k356ms3u50j5s@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Both Belanski and Kelvin Ramirez indicated on social media that they intended to sell the ball, per the filing.\u00a0<strong> <\/strong>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000l356mgliem5qo@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            When contacted for comment, Matus\u2019 representatives told CNN that the 18-year-old said: \u201cI had the ball in my hand.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000m356m859wizq4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            John Uustal, founding partner in the law firm representing Matus, added: \u201cThis is not some scrum on a football field where the law doesn\u2019t apply because the players have voluntarily agreed that they are allowed to hit each other. In the stands, once someone has the ball, it\u2019s not legal for someone to take it.\u00a0Max is a high school kid, it was his birthday.\u00a0A bigger stronger adult can\u2019t take the ball away and pretend it\u2019s his.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000n356mt8d3oilf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            CNN has contacted Goldin for comment, as well as Belanski\u2019s counsel. CNN could not immediately reach Ramirez for comment.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000o356mgf2lqyep@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            According to the lawsuit, Matus would be \u201cirreparably harmed\u201d if the 50\/50 ball is able to be sold, as it is a \u201cunique one-of-a-kind item that cannot be replaced.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000p356mrlaxh1b9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cOnce the 50\/50 Ball is sold, (Matus) will likely be unable to get it back and no monetary damages will be adequate to replace it.\u201d\u00a0<strong> <\/strong>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000q356mbrglckyk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The situation bears similarities to what happened with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2003\/LAW\/06\/26\/ctv.bonds.baseball\/\">Barry Bonds\u2019 record-breaking 73rd home run ball in 2001<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000r356menxb63vj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Alex Popov was the first to get a glove on the ball after it sailed into the stands, but he later claimed in a lawsuit that it was torn from his hand by Patrick Hayashi, who emerged from a scrum of fans with the ball in hand. Hayashi said he found the ball rolling free in the minute-long melee.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1kra0lg000s356m1k4m2a18@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In December 2002, a San Francisco judge ordered the two men to sell the ball and split the proceeds.
