It boasts a bright central bar and two large, winding spiral arms threaded with dark clouds of dust and speckled with blue and pink glowing patches.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"hawk-nest\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\"\/>\n<p>Recent observations of IC 1954 offer improved views of the galaxy&#8217;s star-forming regions compared to earlier <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15892-hubble-space-telescope.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/15892-hubble-space-telescope.html\"><u>Hubble images<\/u><\/a> released in 2021. The new image includes H-alpha data, represented by the bright red areas where hydrogen is present, feeding new <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/57-stars-formation-classification-and-constellations.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/57-stars-formation-classification-and-constellations.html\"><u>stars<\/u><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The improved coverage of star-forming nebulas, which are prominent emitters of the red H-alpha light, can be seen in the numerous glowing, pink spots across the disc of the galaxy,&#8221; European Space Agency (ESA) officials said in <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/esahubble.org\/images\/potw2439a\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/esahubble.org\/images\/potw2439a\/\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>a statement<\/u><\/a> releasing the new image. &#8220;Interestingly, some astronomers posit that the galaxy\u2019s &#8216;bar&#8217; is actually an energetic star-forming region that just happens to lie over the galactic center.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <\/strong><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/best-hubble-space-telescope-images.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/best-hubble-space-telescope-images.html\"><strong>The best Hubble Space Telescope images of all time!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new image combines data from the Hubble Space Telescope, the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/21925-james-webb-space-telescope-jwst.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/21925-james-webb-space-telescope-jwst.html\"><u>James Webb Space Telescope<\/u><\/a> and the ground-based Atacama Large Millimeter\/submillimeter Array in Chile. In addition to IC 1954, the telescopes are jointly surveying over fifty other nearby galaxies in radio, infrared, optical and ultraviolet light.
