Friday after a two-year stint that included a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/03\/05\/business\/weightwatchers-can-still-profit-off-dieters-puking-their-guts-out-after-taking-ozempic-analyst\/\">controversial embrace of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Sistani pushed the 61-year-old company \u2014 famous for in-person meetings and portion control \u2014 to buy a telehealth platform that connected patients with doctors who can prescribe the popular obesity medications. <\/p>\n<p>However WeightWatchers\u2019 shares have been in freefall, plummeting more than 90% this year. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Sima Sistani is out as CEO of WW International. <span class=\"credit\">WW International, Inc.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The stock was down nearly $3 Friday, trading below $1. <\/p>\n<p>Before the COVID pandemic, and the explosion in weight-loss drugs, the stock reached a peak of more than $44. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Tara Comonte, a board member who previously served as president of Shake Shack, has been tapped  as interim CEO while the company mulls a full-time replacement.<\/p>\n<p>Former talk show queen and WeightWatchers board member Oprah Winfrey <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/02\/29\/business\/oprah-to-leave-weightwatchers-board-shares-plunge-27\/\">announced earlier this year<\/a> that she was leaving the company\u2019s board after she <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2023\/12\/13\/entertainment\/oprah-winfrey-confirms-she-uses-weight-loss-medication-after-months-of-speculation\/?_ga=2.112038988.939136420.1709566354-752344526.1696354521&amp;_gl=1*iclm1v*_ga*MTMxODU0MDk4OS4xNjQ3OTE0NTA4*_ga_0DZ7LHF5PZ*MTcyNzQ1NjMzMS40OTkuMS4xNzI3NDU4MTEzLjU0LjAuMA..\">began taking weight-loss medications.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sistani, 61, sought to capitalize on the craze surrounding the weight loss drugs. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>WeightWatchers is a brand that offers weight management services based on holistic approaches. <span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Under her leadership, WeightWatchers acquired Sequence, which has since been rebranded as WeightWatchers Clinic.<\/p>\n<p>The telehealth clinic allowed the company to begin dispensing GLP-1 drugs in addition to its traditional menu of behavioral change programs.<\/p>\n<p>But competition in the telehealth sector \u2014 particularly among companies that offer versions of the GLP-1 drugs \u2014 has hindered WeightWatchers.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The popularity of drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy has had a negative impact on WeightWatchers. <span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Last month, the company cut its full-year sales target and announced it would be streamlining its business in the face of a \u201crapidly changing landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The forecast cut sent the stock price down even further.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to being named CEO in 2022, Sistani was co-founder and CEO of Houseparty, a video chat app that allowed up to 8 people to join a group call at any one
