go boom<\/a> last summer, but has yet to reach its explosive finish.<\/p>\n<p>When it does finally let go, it will rival the brightness of our own north star, Polaris, and be plainly visible for about Science Edward Sion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jamiecartereurope\/2024\/09\/26\/whats-going-on-with-the-blaze-star-the-star-that-wont-explode\/\">told Forbes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cblaze,\u201d scientifically called T CrB, is actually made of two stars, a small hot white dwarf and a cool red giant, according to the outlet. <\/p>\n<p>The red giant sends out cool matter that gets pulled into the white dwarf\u2019s heated surface, which will accumulate until it explodes, causing the sudden brightness spike.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s incredibly exciting to have this front-row seat,\u201d Dr. Rebekah Hounsell, an assistant research scientist at NASA\u2019s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, said earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The last time T CrB went nova was in 1946 and is on a rather consistent near 80-year cycle for outbursts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/26\/science\/comet-a3-on-81000-year-trip-to-earth-is-here-how-to-see-it\/\">once-in-a-lifetime event<\/a> that will create a lot of new astronomers out there, giving young people a cosmic event they can observe for themselves, ask their own questions, and collect their own data,\u201d\u00a0Hounsell added. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019ll fuel the next generation
