It was never clear, however, how much Apple might\u2019ve invested in the company.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft, of course, is already a major investor in OpenAI and owns a 49% share of its profits. Today\u2019s report suggests Microsoft is set to expand its OpenAI investment with another $1 billion through this latest round.<\/p>\n<p>The news of Apple\u2019s decision to pass on investing in OpenAI comes amid more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/9\/25\/24254431\/openai-cto-mira-murati-leaving\">leadership<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/9\/25\/24254535\/openai-non-profit-for-profit-sam-altman-investment\">structural<\/a> changes at the company. Former Apple design chief Jony Ive also <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2024\/09\/23\/jony-ive-confirms-working-on-an-ai-hardware-product-with-openais-sam-altman\/\">recently confirmed<\/a> that he is working with OpenAI to design an AI hardware product.<\/p>\n<p>Apple and OpenAI are teaming up to integrate <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/chatgpt-makes-siri-more-intelligent-in-ios-18-heres-how\/\">ChatGPT into iOS 18 later this year<\/a>. Through this partnership, ChatGPT will handle world knowledge requests in combination with Siri. <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2024\/06\/12\/apple-not-paying-openai-to-use-chatgpt-in-ios-18-report\/\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em> has reported<\/a> that Apple is not paying OpenAI as part of this partnership, nor is OpenAI paying Apple.
