Trump are in an even tighter race in the battlegrounds of Michigan and Wisconsin than just seven weeks ago, according to <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/09\/28\/us\/elections\/times-siena-rust-belt-crosstabs.html\" title=\"\">new polling from The New York Times and Siena College<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\"><a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/08\/10\/us\/politics\/harris-trump-battleground-polls.html\" title=\"\">Ms. Harris\u2019s advantage from early August<\/a> has been chiseled away slightly by Mr. Trump\u2019s enduring strength on economic issues, the polls found, a potentially troubling development for the vice president given that the economy remains the most important issue driving voters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">With less than 40 days until Election Day, the race is essentially tied in Michigan, with Ms. Harris receiving 48 percent support among likely voters and Mr. Trump garnering 47 percent \u2014 well within the poll\u2019s margin of error. In Wisconsin, a state where <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2020\/10\/28\/power-up-new-post-abc-polling-shows-biden-with-big-lead-wisconsin-where-coronavirus-cases-are-rising\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">polls have a history<\/a> of <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/09\/20\/us\/politics\/harris-polling-wisconsin.html\" title=\"\">overstating support for Democrats<\/a>, Ms. Harris holds 49 percent to Mr. Trump\u2019s 47 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The polls also found that Ms. Harris had <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/09\/28\/us\/politics\/harris-trump-nebraska.html\" title=\"\">a lead of nine percentage points over Mr. Trump<\/a> in Nebraska\u2019s Second Congressional District, whose lone electoral vote could be decisive in the Electoral College.
