The Texas-based company\u2019s <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/steward-health-care-massachusetts-bankruptcy-dddb6acbc19cea9f914d378c7aaf2cec\">troubled recent history<\/a><\/span> has drawn scrutiny from elected officials in New England, where some of its hospitals are located.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for de la Torre said Saturday that he \u201chas amicably separated from Steward on mutually agreeable terms\u201d and \u201cwill continue to be a tireless advocate for the improvement of reimbursement rates for the underprivileged patient population.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vermont U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who chairs the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, said earlier this month that Congress \u201cwill <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/steward-health-care-ceo-senate-subpoena-bankruptcy-62bb08339211d57e8c59395d62cb484d\">hold Dr. de la Torre accountable<\/a><\/span> for his greed and for the damage he has caused to hospitals and patients throughout America.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>De la Torre\u2019s resignation is effective Oct. 1. The Senate approved a resolution on Wednesday that was intended to <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/steward-health-care-ceo-senate-contempt-51510b28c9cc87bc7e50e56e1ce2081f\">hold him in criminal contempt<\/a><\/span> for failing to testify before a committee.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate panel has been looking into Steward\u2019s bankruptcy. De la Torre did not appear before it despite being issued a subpoena.
