Braddock allegedly threatened to \u201ccall up my Russian-Ukrainian hit squad\u201d and make the primary opponent disappear, according to the indictment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/former-candidate-13th-congressional-district-florida-charged-election-related-threat-former\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DOJ indictment<\/a> did not name the alleged victims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">One of Braddock\u2019s primary opponents and the race\u2019s eventual winner, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/claims-murder-plot-against-gop-candidate-florida-court-n1272088\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conten<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/claims-murder-plot-against-gop-candidate-florida-court-n1272088\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">d<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/claims-murder-plot-against-gop-candidate-florida-court-n1272088\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ed<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/claims-murder-plot-against-gop-candidate-florida-court-n1272088\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> in 2021 court documents<\/a> that Braddock was stalking her and wanted her dead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A Florida court in 2021 granted Luna and a conservative activist and friend of hers, Erin Olszewski, a temporary restraining order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Braddock terminated his campaign in 2021 shortly after the judge granted the injunction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">NBC News could not immediately reach Braddock for comment on Saturday. He was then deported to the U.S. and made his first court appearance Thursday in Los Angeles, per the DOJ news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Braddock is charged with one count of interstate transmission of a true threat to injure another person, for which he could face a maximum of five years in prison if convicted, the DOJ said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The case is part of the Justice Department\u2019s Election Threats Task Force, convened in 2021 to address <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/elections\/pennsylvania-election-security-task-force-rcna141024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">threats targeting election workers<\/a>. The FBI\u2019s Tampa field office is investigating the case with support from the St. Petersburg Police Department, the DOJ said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"endmark\">Luna is up for re-election on Nov. 5.
