The United States Maritime Alliance, known as USMX, represents employers of the East and Gulf Coast longshore industry.<\/p>\n<p>If union members <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/09\/27\/ports-strike-union-warns-walmart-no-trade-import-options.html\">walk off the job at ports stretching from Maine to Texas<\/a>, it would be the first coast-wide ILA strike since 1977.<\/p>\n<p>It was not clear if any negotiations were taking place or planned before the midnight Monday deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/09\/29\/-biden-says-he-wont-intervene-if-port-workers-go-on-strike.html\">President Joe Biden said<\/a> he did not intend to intervene to prevent a walkout if dock workers failed to secure a new contract by an Oct. 1 deadline.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s collective bargaining.
