{"id":108705,"date":"2024-09-30T12:12:51","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T05:12:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=108705"},"modified":"2024-09-30T12:12:51","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T05:12:51","slug":"spacex-capsule-docks-at-iss-to-collect-stranded-astronauts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=108705","title":{"rendered":"SpaceX capsule docks at ISS to collect stranded astronauts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">A SpaceX capsule sent to bring back two astronauts stranded on the International Space Station (ISS) has docked.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The Dragon capsule, which has two empty seats for Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, docked at 17:30 eastern time (22:30 BST).<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The pair arrived at the station on Boeing&#8217;s new Starliner capsule for an eight-day mission in June, but were <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c6pp29gdwe6o\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">forced to remain<!-- --><\/a> there because of a fault discovered during the flight. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">They are now expected to return to Earth in February. <!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The Dragon capsule lifted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida on Saturday carrying Nasa astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Gorbunov. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Hague, who has done a previous stint on the ISS, and Gorbunov will join the space station&#8217;s crew before taking Wilmore and Williams back to Earth. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The launch had been scheduled for Thursday but was delayed because of Hurricane Helene, which has caused huge destruction across the south-eastern US, including Florida, in recent days. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The docking occurred as the space station flew 265 miles (426km) above Botswana in southern Africa.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Footage from inside the ISS showed Hague and Gorbunov smiling and posing for photos with the rest of the crew after their arrival. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The original Starliner flight, which launched on 5 June, was that capsule&#8217;s first test flight with astronauts on board and Boeing&#8217;s first attempt to take astronauts to the ISS.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">During the flight it experienced a number of problems, including leaks of helium &#8211; which is used in its propulsion system &#8211; and issues with several of its thrusters. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Engineers at Boeing and Nasa spent months investigating, but in late August Nasa <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cx29wzk4r19o\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">decided that it would not be safe<!-- --><\/a> to try to bring Wilmore and Williams home aboard the Starliner. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The capsule had already been delayed for several years because of setbacks during its development, as well as issues discovered during uncrewed test flights in 2019 and 2022. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Nasa retired its space shuttle fleet in 2011, leaving it reliant on Russia&#8217;s Soyuz craft to get to and from the ISS.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Having two American companies to perform the missions has been a key goal of the agency&#8217;s for some time, and in 2014 Boeing and SpaceX were awarded contracts worth $4.2bn (\u00a33.2bn) and $2.6bn (\u00a32bn) respectively.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">In 2020, SpaceX &#8211;
