{"id":108732,"date":"2024-09-30T13:57:51","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T06:57:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=108732"},"modified":"2024-09-30T13:57:51","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T06:57:51","slug":"earthquake-austrias-far-right-freedom-party-wins-election-elections-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=108732","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Earthquake\u2019: Austria\u2019s far-right Freedom Party wins election | Elections News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>Austria\u2019s far-right Freedom Party (FPO) has topped the country\u2019s national elections in a historic victory but is likely to struggle to find partners that would enable it to form a governing coalition.<\/p>\n<p>The FPO won 28.8 percent of votes, beating the ruling conservative People\u2019s Party (OVP) into second place at 26.3 percent, according to near-complete results.<\/p>\n<p>While the FPO has served in coalition governments before, it is the first time it has won a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/9\/29\/austria-votes-in-general-election-as-far-right-eyes-victory\">national vote<\/a>\u00a0and comes as far-right parties across Europe have made gains.<\/p>\n<p>All other parties in the country, however, have rejected forming a coalition with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/9\/28\/is-austrias-far-right-poised-for-historic-win-in-sunday-elections\">Eurosceptic, Russia-friendly FPO<\/a>, which was founded in the 1950s under the leadership of a former Nazi lawmaker. Leader Herbert Kickl is also a provocative and polarising figure, roundly disliked by other party leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have written a piece of history together today,\u201d the 55-year-old Kickl told cheering supporters in Vienna. \u201cWe have opened a door to a new era.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like other far-right parties <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/6\/9\/germany-and-frances-far-right-make-gains-in-eu-elections\">elsewhere in Europe<\/a>, the FPO\u2019s popularity has surged amid voter anger over issues such as migration, the state of the economy and restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is certainly an earthquake and sends a shockwave through all the other parties,\u201d political analyst Thomas Hofer told the AFP news agency.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"our-hand-is-outstretched\">\u2018Our hand is outstretched\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Kickl, who took over the party\u2019s leadership in 2021, said he was ready to form a government with \u201ceach and every one\u201d of the parties in parliament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hand is outstretched in all directions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Among FPO supporters, the atmosphere was festive, as supporters wearing traditional Austrian dress downed glasses of beer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a real success \u2026 It will be a very, very exciting time\u201d with the FPO trying to form a government, said Erik Berglund, a waiter.
