{"id":108769,"date":"2024-09-30T16:19:46","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T09:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=108769"},"modified":"2024-09-30T16:19:46","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T09:19:46","slug":"3-indiana-brothers-diagnosed-with-rare-crippling-condition-after-suffering-frequent-headaches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=108769","title":{"rendered":"3 Indiana brothers diagnosed with rare crippling condition after suffering frequent headaches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Three young Indiana brothers have all been diagnosed with the same rare crippling condition after the trio experienced frequent headaches, according to the boys\u2019 parents who recently opened up about the health battle.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln, Norrin and Remley Niece have matching scars on the back of their heads after undergoing surgeries for Chiari malformation, which affects slightly less than one in 1,000 people across the globe, according to experts.<\/p>\n<p>The condition occurs when the brain at the back of the skull presses through a normal opening and extends to the spinal cord, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/health\/conditions-and-diseases\/chiari-malformation-type-i#:~:text=A%20Chiari%20malformation%20is%20a,cause%20mild%20to%20severe%20symptoms.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to John Hopkins Medicine.<\/a><\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Three young brothers, Lincoln, 10, Norrin, 5, and Remley, 2, were diagnosed with crippling rare conditions after dealing with headaches. <span class=\"credit\">Facebook \/ Indianapolis Indians<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The symptoms include neck pain, unsteady walking, poor hand-eye coordination and dizziness among other side effects, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/chiari-malformation\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20354010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to the Mayo Clinic.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The boys, who live in Greenfield, each suffered frequent headaches and vomiting before being diagnosed.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty scary,\u201d the kids\u2019 father, Ron Niece <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrtv.com\/health\/3-greenfield-brothers-face-same-rare-brain-abnormality\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told WRTV on Friday.<\/a> \u201cThere is no doubt about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All three brothers underwent surgeries, leaving the family emotionally drained each time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou just kind of become numb and go into autopilot,\u201d mother Whitney Niece explained to the station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it doesn\u2019t make it anymore emotionally easy. Sending your kid off into surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The boys, who live in Greenfield, each suffered frequent headaches and vomiting before being diagnosed. <span class=\"credit\">Facebook<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Remley was the first Niece boy diagnosed with the condition in June 2022, but at the time didn\u2019t need surgery, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenfieldreporter.com\/2024\/03\/08\/the-niece-boys-greenfield-brothers-go-through-similar-surgical-journeys-having-chiari-malformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to the Greenfield Daily Reporter,<\/a> which interviewed the family in March 2024 when Lincoln was 10, Norrin was 5 and Remley was 2.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln reportedly started having headaches at 5 but they were initially thought to be tied to a congenital heart defect. A CAT scan later revealed in Feb. 2023 that he also had Chiari malformation and underwent a procedure the following month.<\/p>\n<p>Remley was still struggling, including randomly falling, and went under the knife in August 2023 \u2013 the same month Norrin began having headaches before he had surgery in January, the news outlet reported.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>All three brothers underwent surgeries, leaving the family emotionally drained each time. <span class=\"credit\">Facebook<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dr. Laurie Ackerman, of the Riley Hospital for Children, performed each of the surgeries in what is called Chiari Malformation Decompression where a little piece of the back part of the skull and a three-by-three centimeter piece of bone were removed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe goal of all of these things is to sort of disimpact the area,\u201d Ackerman told the Greenfield Daily Reporter. \u201cTo allow fluid to move around there normally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Norrin and Remley went through complications afterward, leading to a shunt being placed so extra brain fluid can be distributed to the belly. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The condition occurs when the brain at the back of the skull presses through a normal opening and extends to the spinal cord. <span class=\"credit\">Facebook \/ Indianapolis Indians<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She noted it\u2019s unusual for all three kids from the same family to have the condition.
