FOX Weather Correspondent Robert Ray is in hard-hit Asheville, where residents say they\u2019re looking for more communications from officials.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><strong>ASHEVILLE, N.C. <\/strong>\u2013 Hurricane <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/helene\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Helene&#8217;s<\/a> catastrophic impact continues to unfold in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/north-carolina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Carolina<\/a>, highlighting the devastating consequences of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/hurricanes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hurricanes<\/a> even hundreds of miles from landfall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Remnants from Helene drenched the state, dropping nearly 30 inches in some spots \u2013 or about four months\u2019 worth of rain, in only three days.<\/p>\n<div class=\"featured featured-video video-ct\">\n<div class=\"video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"info\">\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p class=\"sub-text\">FOX Weather&#8217;s Robert Ray captured this footage from Asheville, North Carolina, on Monday and says it&#8217;s the worst damage he&#8217;s discovered so far in the city. Cars are seen upside down covered in mud, homes are completely destroyed, and large piles of debris cover the streets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/hurricane-cyclone-category-four-explainer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Category 4<\/a> storm made landfall in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florida<\/a>, leaving a trail of destruction that extends through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Georgia<\/a>, the Carolinas and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/tennessee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tennessee<\/a> Valley. With more than 120 confirmed deaths across six states, Helene&#8217;s toll is staggering.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/helene-north-carolina-florida-southeast-recovery-dead\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>HELENE&#8217;S DEATH TOLL RISES ABOVE 120 AS NORTH CAROLINA TOWNS REMAIN ISOLATED AFTER CATASTROPHIC FLOODING<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"featured featured-video video-ct\">\n<div class=\"video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"info\">\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p class=\"sub-text\">Aerial footage captured by the North Carolina National Guard provides a dramatic look at the scope of catastrophic flooding caused by the effects of Hurricane Helene when the deadly storm swept across the Southeast and mid-Atlantic after making landfall in Florida last week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">President Joe Biden has declared a major <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/disasters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disaster<\/a> for North Carolina, where nearly 40 people have tragically lost their lives. Over 450,000 residents remain without power, and countless others have been displaced by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/flood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flooding<\/a>. Rescue efforts are ongoing, but many communities remain isolated due to impassable roads, power outages and communication disruptions.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;I and my team are in constant contact with governors, mayors and local leaders. Head of FEMA, Deanne Criswell, is on the ground in North Carolina. She&#8217;s going to stay in Asheville, in that place of the region for the foreseeable future,&#8221; Biden said. &#8220;There&#8217;s been reports of over 100 dead in the consequence of this storm, and there are reports of up to 600 people unaccounted for because they can&#8217;t be contacted. God willing, they&#8217;re alive. As much as 14 inches of rain fell over three days, setting an all-time record. Shelters are available, but some are becoming full. Food and water supplies are limited and will be distributed at designated sites once available.
