{"id":108971,"date":"2024-10-01T04:31:08","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T21:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=108971"},"modified":"2024-10-01T04:31:08","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T21:31:08","slug":"marburg-virus-rwanda-is-dealing-with-first-outbreak-of-deadly-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=108971","title":{"rendered":"Marburg virus: Rwanda is dealing with first outbreak of deadly disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-editable=\"content\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-reorderable=\"content\">\n<p>\n    <cite class=\"source__cite\"><br \/>\n      <span class=\"source__location\" data-editable=\"location\"\/><br \/>\n      <span class=\"source__text\" data-editable=\"source\">CNN<\/span><br \/>\n        \u00a0\u2014\u00a0<br \/>\n    <\/cite>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94egj001r54p15pm18hwg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            For the first time in Rwanda\u2019s history, its health ministry is dealing with an outbreak of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/03\/29\/health\/marburg-ebola-virus-africa-health-wellness\/\">Marburg virus disease<\/a>, a rare but deadly hemorrhagic disease similar to Ebola \u2013 but unlike Ebola, there is no treatment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/news-events\/news-releases\/marburg-vaccine-shows-promising-results-first-human-study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">or vaccines<\/a> for Marburg, and it has a fatality rate of 88%.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94kkq0003336mjxcqoe9z@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            So far, 26 people have gotten sick, 18 are in treatment and eight people have died in the outbreak, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RwandaHealth\/status\/1840459338563162430\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the health ministry.<\/a>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94kkq0004336m772h65e1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In addition to sending medical supplies, the World Health Organization said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afro.who.int\/countries\/rwanda\/news\/rwanda-reports-first-ever-marburg-virus-disease-outbreak-26-cases-confirmed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over the weekend<\/a> that it is deploying a team of seven global experts in hemorrhagic disease to Rwanda who can provide guidance for public health experts on the ground. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday that it is also sending experts to Rwanda to help support testing and contact-tracing efforts.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1pd5gra00013b6mniozqw0f@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            There are no cases of Marburg in the United States, and the risk to Americans with this outbreak is low.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94kkq0005336mslo1jak5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The CDC said it has had a presence in Rwanda since 2002 and has worked closely to help the country strengthen its health system.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94kkq0006336mi833vabn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Unlike in some other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/marburg\/outbreaks\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sub-Saharan African countries<\/a> that have dealt with Marburg virus disease, Rwanda has a strong public health system, according to WHO.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94kkq0007336m83dm20pp@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWith the country\u2019s already robust public\u00a0health\u00a0emergency response system, WHO is collaborating closely with the national authorities to provide the needed support to further enhance the ongoing efforts,\u201d\u00a0said Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, WHO regional director for Africa.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94kkq0008336mocue5yny@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Dr. Brian Chirombo, the WHO representative to Rwanda, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/rbarwanda\/status\/1840511879854395488\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said Sunday<\/a> that he believes the country has \u201cthe capacity and the ability to stop this outbreak very quickly.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94kkq000a336mzvmbjkj8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Rwanda\u2019s Ministry of Health said Sunday that people are allowed to continue with their daily activities, and the government is encouraging people not to panic, since officials believe that they have identified all the disease hotspots and are <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RwandaHealth\/status\/1840419032400285702\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">taking appropriate action<\/a> to keep it from spreading.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94kkr000b336mzwxv66uq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The virus has spread to seven of the country\u2019s 30 districts. More than 100 people who have had contact with infected people are either being monitored or in isolation, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afro.who.int\/countries\/rwanda\/news\/rwanda-reports-first-ever-marburg-virus-disease-outbreak-26-cases-confirmed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ministry said<\/a>. Many of those who have gotten sick are health care workers.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94kkr000c336m147soyrx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/marburg\/about\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marburg<\/a> is an <a href=\"https:\/\/ictv.global\/report\/chapter\/filoviridae\/filoviridae\/orthomarburgvirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">orthomarburgvirus<\/a>, a virus that naturally occurs in fruit bats. People can also get sick after handling a patient\u2019s clothing or bedding.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1pczv1k00003b6m3lhc4vjf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It is not an airborne virus like the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, so that makes it a little <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/03\/29\/health\/marburg-ebola-virus-africa-health-wellness\/index.html\">easier to control, experts say<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94kkr000e336mssganwac@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It can take up to three weeks for symptoms to develop after someone has been exposed to the virus.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1p94kkr000f336mybgl6nls@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The illness typically starts with a rash and fever. People may vomit and have a severe headache and muscle aches. In severe cases, infected individuals may bleed from the nose, gums and eyes, and internal bleeding manifests as blood in vomit, urine and stool.
