I can literally do nothing else in my life and I\u2019m still a Tony winner. I will never not have done that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">For several years, Creel, who was born in Findlay, Ohio, played the role of fastidious missionary Elder Price in &#8220;The Book of Mormon,&#8221; embarking on the show&#8217;s first national tour in 2012, before taking the role to London&#8217;s West End, where he won a Olivier Award in 2014.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Creel also starred in the Broadway productions of &#8220;La Cage Aux Folles&#8221; (2004), &#8220;She Loves Me&#8221; (2016) and &#8220;Waitress&#8221; (2019) and &#8220;Into the Woods&#8221; (2022).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In recent years, he appeared onstage in his own Off-Broadway show, \u201cWalk on Through: Confessions of a Museum Novice,\u201d which chronicled his love for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Creel also brought his talents to television a handful of times, appearing in \u201cEloise at the Plaza\u201d and \u201cEloise at Christmastime\u201d in 2003, and Ryan Murphy&#8217;s &#8220;American Horror Stories&#8221; in 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Many of Creel&#8217;s fellow Broadway stars paid tribute to him on social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Sutton Foster shared a photo of her and Creel being affectionate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DAjdAOjRnf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Instagram<\/a>, writing, &#8220;My sweet friend. I will love you forever.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Josh Gad, who originated the role of Elder Arnold Cunningham in  &#8220;The Book of Mormon,&#8221; shared a different photo of Creel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DAjIx4KSR2Q\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Instagram<\/a>.&#8221;We have lost someone far too young, far too early still in his journey and far too impactful to our creative community. My heart breaks for his family and his closest friends. This is just not fair. I love you so much.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"\">How did Gavin Creel die?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\">Creel died of a rare and aggressive type of cancer known as metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma. He had been diagnosed just two months before his death.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"\">What is metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\">Melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma is a type of cancerous tumor that starts in the lining of the nerves that connect the spinal cord to the rest of the body, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/malignant-peripheral-nerve-sheath-tumors\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20362603\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to Mayo Clinic<\/a>.
