href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/research\/acs-researchers\/angela-giaquinto-bio.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Angela Giaquinto<\/a>, lead study author and ACS associate scientist within the surveillance research team.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cBut future progress may be thwarted by increasing incidence, especially among younger women, and consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, such as delayed diagnosis due to interruptions in screening,\u201d Giaquinto added.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>The findings were published Tuesday in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acsjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.3322\/caac.21863\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear exactly why there\u2019s an uptick in younger breast cancer diagnoses.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northwell.edu\/find-care\/find-a-doctor\/dr-cindy-cen-md-11509482\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dr. Cindy Cen,<\/a> a breast surgeon at the Northwell Health Cancer Institute at Lake Success, said there are probably several reasons, including an increase in screenings, greater awareness of the importance of self-exams and poor lifestyle choices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDiet, exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, alcohol intake all <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/07\/12\/lifestyle\/are-rich-people-at-greater-genetic-risk-for-cancer-what-experts-say\/\">factor into breast cancer risk<\/a>,\u201d Cen, who was not involved with the new research, told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe trend for <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/20\/lifestyle\/no-easy-explanation-for-rising-cancer-rates-in-young-people\/\">cancer diagnosis in younger patients<\/a> is not limited to breast alone \u2014 we are seeing <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/07\/11\/lifestyle\/cancer-dietitian-reveals-13-ways-to-lower-colon-cancer-risk\/\">younger diagnoses for colon cancer<\/a> also for example,\u201d she added. \u201cThis younger trend is definitely troubling to see and needs further investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><button class=\"button
