{"id":109589,"date":"2024-10-02T17:13:56","date_gmt":"2024-10-02T10:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=109589"},"modified":"2024-10-02T17:13:56","modified_gmt":"2024-10-02T10:13:56","slug":"tim-walz-and-jd-vance-hold-civil-debate-on-economy-and-jan-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=109589","title":{"rendered":"Tim Walz and JD Vance Hold Civil Debate on Economy and Jan. 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/jd-vance\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jd-vance\" data-tag=\"jd-vance\">JD Vance<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/tim-walz\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tim-walz\" data-tag=\"tim-walz\">Tim Walz<\/a> tackled divisive issues including immigration and Jan. 6 in their vice presidential debate on Tuesday, but often did so in strikingly agreeable terms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tVance was the more fluent of the two, sanding off some of the edges of his public image as he presented a case that Donald Trump deserves another four years in office. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWalz stumbled over his words at times, copped to misspeaking and being a \u201cknucklehead,\u201d but also delivered a sharp rebuke of Trump\u2019s refusal to accept defeat in 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m going to thank Senator Vance,\u201d Walz said toward the end. \u201cI think this is the conversation they want to hear, and I think there\u2019s a lot of agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut when it comes to the attack on the Capitol, Walz said the two are \u201cmiles apart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cDid he lose the 2020 election?\u201d Walz asked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cTim, I\u2019m focused on the future,\u201d Vance responded. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThat is a damning non-answer,\u201d Walz said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor both candidates, the debate offered an opportunity to introduce themselves on the national stage. In his opening remarks, Vance described himself as the product of a working-class family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cMy mother required food assistance for periods of her life,\u201d he said. \u201cMy grandmother required Social Security to help raise me, and she raised me in part because my mother struggled with addiction for a big chunk of my early life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWalz appeared somewhat nervous and halting in his delivery at times. He was asked about his claim that he had been in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square crackdown, though he did not get there until later. The Minnesota governor gave a circuitous answer, talking about his upbringing in Nebraska and his National Guard service, before acknowledging that he sometimes would \u201cget caught up in the rhetoric,\u201d and that he misspoke.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m a knucklehead at times,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tEarlier in the evening, Vance took exception when <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/cbs\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cbs\" data-tag=\"cbs\">CBS<\/a> moderator Margaret Brennan fact-checked him during a discussion of immigration. Vance said that \u201cmillions of illegal immigrants\u201d had overwhelmed cities like Springfield, Ohio. Brennan noted that the issue in Springfield has to do with Haitians who immigrated legally. Vance said the fact-check was against the agreed ground rules, and launched into an explanation on asylum policy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBrennan tried to move on to a new topic, but Vance pressed ahead. After a few moments, and some crosstalk from Walz, Brennan and co-moderator Norah O\u2019Donnell stepped in, and the microphones were shut off.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe audience can\u2019t hear you because your mics are cut,\u201d Brennan said. \u201cWe have so much we want to get to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFact-checks were a contentious issue for the Republican ticket after the ABC debate on Sept. 10 between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. The moderators in that debate intervened repeatedly to correct Trump\u2019s statements, prompting the Trump camp to accuse ABC of bias.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOn the question of democracy, Vance repeatedly accused Harris of trying to censor right-wing views, and warned of the threat of \u201cbig technology companies silencing their fellow citizens.\u201d During her presidential campaign in 2019, Harris called on Twitter to kick Trump off the platform, arguing he had violated the site\u2019s terms of service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cKamala Harris is engaged in censorship at an industrial scale,\u201d Vance said. \u201cShe did it during COVID, she\u2019s done it over a number of other issues. And that, to me, is a much bigger threat to democracy than what Donald Trump said when he said that protesters should peacefully protest on January 6th.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAt the outset, Brennan vowed to hold a \u201cthoughtful and civil debate,\u201d and it largely lived up to that. Both candidates trained their fire at the top of the ticket, leaving room for cordiality between the two vice presidential contenders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDuring a discussion of guns, Walz said that his 17-year-old son had witnessed a shooting at a community center. Vance said he didn\u2019t know that. \u201cI\u2019m sorry about that,\u201d Vance said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI appreciate it,\u201d Walz said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tVance and Walz also sparred on abortion, climate change and the conflagration in Israel. On abortion, Vance moderated his tone, speaking about a friend who had an abortion when she was young.
