{"id":109775,"date":"2024-10-03T04:16:48","date_gmt":"2024-10-02T21:16:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=109775"},"modified":"2024-10-03T04:16:48","modified_gmt":"2024-10-02T21:16:48","slug":"doctor-charged-in-matthew-perry-death-investigation-pleads-guilty-to-drug-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=109775","title":{"rendered":"Doctor charged in Matthew Perry death investigation pleads guilty to drug charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>LOS ANGELES (AP) \u2014 A San Diego doctor became the <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/matthew-perry-death-arrest-b3708a3818f1c649f234f83a6cd16e30\">third person<\/a><\/span> to plead guilty in the case of <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/matthew-perry\">Matthew Perry<\/a><\/span> \u2019s fatal drug overdose, as prosecutors collect cooperators in an attempt to convict two bigger targets they say are responsible for the death of the \u201cFriends\u201d star.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/matthew-perry-ketamine-charges-chavez-doctor-ddf6d340b5a554132f0769bc0a0ae03b\">Dr. Mark Chavez<\/a><\/span>, 54, entered the plea Wednesday to a felony count of conspiring to distribute the surgical anesthetic ketamine in federal court in Los Angeles, after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors in July.<\/p>\n<p>Chavez agreed to cooperate as the U.S. Attorneys Office pursues more serious charges against Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who prosecutors say gave ketamine directly to Perry. The other major target in the investigation is Jasmine Sangha, an alleged dealer who prosecutors say was known as the \u201cketamine queen\u201d of Los Angeles and supplied the doses that killed Perry last year. <\/p>\n<p>Chavez stood in court with his lawyer and answered dozens of questions from Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett. He agreed to give up his right to trial and other rights. <\/p>\n<p>He listened to prosecutors as they read through every instance of him meeting with Plasencia between San Diego and Los Angeles to hand off ketamine he got using fraudulent prescriptions. In all, he admitted to supplying 22 5-milliliter vials of ketamine and nine ketamine lozenges. <\/p>\n<p>Chavez cleared his throat when a prosecutor described Perry\u2019s death. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you pleading guilty because you did the things the prosecutors described?\u201d Garnett asked Chavez. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, your honor,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Chavez remains free on bond until his April 2 sentencing. He has turned over his passport and agreed to surrender his medical license, among other conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The judge told him that she is not bound by any agreement or recommendation and can still sentence him to the full 10 years allowed by law. But he is likely to be sentenced to far less time because of the plea and his cooperation with prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>His lawyer Matthew Binninger spoke only briefly to reporters outside the courthouse. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMark entered his plea of guilty and that\u2019s now public record,\u201d Binninger said. \u201cYou accept responsibility and then you set sentencing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also working with federal prosecutors are Perry\u2019s assistant, who admitted to <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/matthew-perry-death-timeline-ketamine-411a3365195c4b65bbb41cc510cb9341\">helping him obtain and inject ketamine<\/a><\/span>, and a Perry acquaintance, who admitted to acting as a drug messenger and middleman.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/matthew-perry-dead-drowning-friends-f2963e83691d2bd2a8626d85a69c73cb\">Perry was found dead<\/a><\/span> by his assistant on Oct. 28, 2023. The medical examiner ruled that <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ketamine-matthew-perry-death-charges-drug-1f6bc37573a44408146e42260b689de4\">ketamine<\/a><\/span> was the primary cause of death. The actor had been using the drug through his regular doctor in a legal but off-label treatment for depression that has become increasingly common.<\/p>\n<p>Perry began seeking more ketamine than his doctor would give him. About a month before the actor\u2019s death, he found Plasencia, who in turn allegedly asked Chavez to obtain the drug for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wonder how much this moron will pay,\u201d Plasencia texted Chavez, according to court filings from prosecutors. The two met up the same day in Costa Mesa, halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego, and exchanged at least four vials of ketamine, the filings said.<\/p>\n<p>After selling the drugs to Perry for $4,500, Plasencia allegedly asked Chavez if he could keep supplying them so they could become Perry\u2019s \u201cgo-to,\u201d prosecutors said.<\/p>\n<p>While reading allegations in court Wednesday, prosecutors described a text exchange in which Plasencia asked Chavez if he approved of what they were doing. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDepends on your tolerance for risk,\u201d Chavez said. <\/p>\n<p>When Plasencia asked him if he was interested in starting a ketamine clinic, Chavez said he might be on board, so long as there was no \u201cshady stuff.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada said in announcing the charges Aug. 15 that \u201cthe doctors preyed on Perry\u2019s history of addiction in the final months of his life last year to provide him with ketamine in amounts they knew were dangerous.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Perry <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/matthew-perry-foundation-death-addiction-aa74b3e424c652a4325166231057ecd4\">struggled with addiction<\/a><\/span> for years, dating back to his time on \u201cFriends,\u201d when he became one of the biggest stars of his generation as Chandler Bing.
