The Sun is currently approaching solar maximum in Solar Cycle 25, an 11-year period of activity with a crescendo of activity marked by more sun spots, which can lead to solar flares and more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/space-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">space weather<\/a> events.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">An X flare is the most intense, and the number represents its strength. After two days of watching, it appears the associated CME will have impacts on parts of the planet.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">SWPC issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/what-is-a-geomagnetic-storm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Geomagnetic Storm Watch<\/a> on Wednesday, with impacts arriving beginning Thursday. A period of G3 &#8220;strong&#8221; geomagnetic storming conditions is possible on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The SWPC rates solar storms on a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/these-are-the-5-categories-that-measure-geomagnetic-storms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">five-level scale<\/a>, with five being the most extreme and rarest\u00a0<a>space weather<\/a>\u00a0conditions. These stronger geomagnetic storms are less common than G1 or G2 events. These interactions can cause problems with the power grid and satellites, but the public does not need to worry.
