It was first detected in the country in late September, and since then, 36 cases have been reported, according to the health ministry of Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">This week, the authorities in Germany closed part of <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/hamburg-train-station-virus-marburg\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Hamburg\u2019s central train station<\/a> after a medical student and his companion reported feeling ill. The medical student had had contact with an infected patient while in Rwanda. Both people in Germany tested negative for Marburg, <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/suspected-germany-marburg-virus-test-negative-hamburg-rwanda-disease\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">the authorities announced this week<\/a>, emphasizing that there was no risk to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Here\u2019s what we know about the disease.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"css-13o6u42 eoo0vm40\" id=\"link-2f078620\">What is Marburg virus disease?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Marburg was first detected in 1967, when <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/marburg\/about\/?CDC_AAref_Val=https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vhf\/marburg\/about.html\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">outbreaks of hemorrhagic fever occurred simultaneously<\/a> in laboratories in the German cities of Marburg and Frankfurt and in Belgrade, in what is now Serbia. The cases were <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.acpjournals.org\/doi\/10.7326\/0003-4819-71-3-657\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">linked to African green monkeys<\/a> that had been imported from Uganda.
