The silvery orb is near or at the farthest point in its orbit from our planet, so it can\u2019t completely block the sun as it does during a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/04\/08\/world\/2024-total-solar-eclipse-path-scn\/index.html\">total solar eclipse<\/a>. But the alignment allows the moon to blot out most of the sun, creating the stunning \u201cring of fire\u201d effect.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1tka63b000i3b6m0scutgtj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Two partial <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/eclipses\/types\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">solar eclipses<\/a> will occur in 2025. A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/moon\/eclipses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">partial solar eclipse<\/a>\u00a0happens when the moon moves between the sun and Earth without being perfectly aligned, causing the moon to partly obscure the sun and forming a crescent shape.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1tka63b000j3b6m448ga1pv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The first partial solar eclipse of 2025, on March 29, will be visible from a slice of the northeastern United States and Canada as well as Greenland, Iceland, and parts of Europe and northwest Africa.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1tka63b000k3b6math6o5gr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A second partial solar eclipse will arrive six months later, on September 21, but only a few lucky nations across Oceania \u2014 including New Zealand, Fiji\u00a0and a small part of Australia \u2014 and Antarctica will be able to see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/eclipse\/map\/2025-september-21?n=%40-31.881%2C175.254\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spectacle<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1tka63b000l3b6m1d3auh07@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Another annular solar eclipse will arrive on February 17, 2026. The full display will only be visible from Antarctica, but a partial eclipse will still be seen outside the primary path from southern Africa and South America, <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/eclipses\/future-eclipses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to NASA<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1tka63b000m3b6mrs1jd1uf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Finally, a total solar eclipse \u2014 such as the one that drew millions of spectators across North America last April \u2014 will once again grace the skies on August 12, 2026. If you don\u2019t have those,<strong> <\/strong>you can use a telescope, binoculars or camera that has a special solar filter on the front, which acts the same way eclipse glasses would.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1tka63b000p3b6mpcsbjanw@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But don\u2019t look through any optical device \u2014 camera lens, telescope, binoculars \u2014 while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/eclipses\/safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASA<\/a>.
