(Photo: National Weather Service Space Weather Prediction Center)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It also posted a map showing just below the projected view line Thursday night and Friday night, but Matthew Cappucci, a meteorologist for MyRadar Weather<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MatthewCappucci\/status\/1841883856388907381\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">, condensed the information into a helpful visibility map<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He projects that the northern lights will be visible enough in northern Utah for cameras to pick up, but the phenomenon is more likely to be visible to the naked eye across northern Idaho and Wyoming for those interested in taking a slightly longer trip to view them. It will likely be overhead in the extreme northern parts of the U.S. and most of Canada.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Alright gang \u2013 here we go. Uncertainty high, but so is potential. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pDNXudY0dw\">pic.twitter.com\/pDNXudY0dw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Matthew Cappucci (@MatthewCappucci) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MatthewCappucci\/status\/1841883856388907381?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 3, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>The National Weather Service points out that an aurora borealis \u2014 commonly referred to as the northern lights \u2014 forms when the sun&#8217;s ejections reach the Earth&#8217;s magnetic field, causing the solar ions to glow in a visual spectacle.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also possible that the newest geomagnetic storm will be stronger than forecast, which is what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksl.com\/article\/51009829\/see-stunning-utah-photos-of-the-northern-lights\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">happened in May<\/a> when residents across most of Utah and the U.S. were treated to a light show.
