{"id":110299,"date":"2024-10-04T12:49:03","date_gmt":"2024-10-04T05:49:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=110299"},"modified":"2024-10-04T12:49:03","modified_gmt":"2024-10-04T05:49:03","slug":"international-longshoremens-association-suspend-ports-strike-until-january","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=110299","title":{"rendered":"International Longshoremen&#8217;s Association suspend ports strike until January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The union representing tens of thousands of dockworkers across the US has agreed to suspend its strike while negotiations continue.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Members of the International Longshoremen&#8217;s Association (ILA) walked out on Tuesday at 14 major ports along the east and Gulf coasts, halting container traffic from Maine to Texas.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The union says it has reached a tentative agreement on wages and will go back to work on Friday until 15 January, when they will return to the bargaining table to negotiate &#8220;all other outstanding issues&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The action marked the first such shutdown in almost 50 years and threatened to wreak chaos amid the busy holiday shopping season and forthcoming presidential election.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">&#8220;Effective immediately, all current job actions will cease and all work covered by the Master Contract will resume,&#8221; said a joint statement by the ILA and the employers&#8217; group &#8211; United States Maritime Alliance (USMX).<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Under the tentative agreement, wages would go up by 62% over the next six years, BBC News understands.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">But negotiations will continue over a number of outstanding issues, including automation.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The union had been calling for a 77% wage hike, while USMX had previously increased its pay rise offer to almost 50%.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The BBC has contacted the ILA and USMX for comment.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">\u201cThe short ILA strike&#8230; will surely be ranked as one of the most lucrative 3 days in labour-management history,&#8221; said Patrick L Anderson, CEO of business consultancy Anderson Economic Group.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">&#8220;The ILA workers have apparently gained 60% wage increases after giving up 3 days of work in a strike that inflicted no serious damage on the US economy.&#8221;<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The strike started on Tuesday after negotiations failed to produce a new six-year contract.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The walkout was the ILA&#8217;s first major stoppage since 1977.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The affected ports included some of the nation&#8217;s busiest, including in New York, Georgia and Texas.
