the EU said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>It added that the decision marked another step toward the conclusion of the Commission&#8217;s anti-subsidy investigation into electric vehicles from China, which was launched in October 2023.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/06\/12\/eu-announces-higher-tariffs-on-chinese-evs-as-trade-tensions-sharpen.html\">The EU first announced<\/a> that it would slap higher tariffs on Chinese electric vehicle imports in June, on the grounds that they benefit &#8220;heavily from unfair subsidies&#8221; and posed a &#8220;threat of economic injury&#8221; to electric vehicle producers in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Duties were also disclosed for individual companies\u00a0that linked to\u00a0their\u00a0levels of cooperation and information\u00a0they\u00a0supplied to the EU as part of the bloc&#8217;s probe into EV production in China.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Provisional duties were put in place from early July.<\/p>\n<p>The European Commission then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/08\/20\/european-union-slashes-planned-tariff-on-china-made-tesla-evs.html\">revised its tariff plans<\/a> in September based on &#8220;substantiated comments on the provisional measures&#8221; from interested parties. <\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for China&#8217;s Ministry of Commerce told reporters that Beijing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/08\/21\/china-calls-eu-tariffs-on-evs-unfair-says-it-will-defend-industry.html\">continues to believe<\/a> that the investigation into China&#8217;s subsidies for its electric vehicle industry has come to &#8220;pre-set conclusions,&#8221; adding that the bloc is promoting unfair competition.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the EU said it was still looking for other solutions, even as the tariffs are adopted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In parallel, the EU and China continue to work hard to explore an alternative solution that would have to be fully WTO-compatible, adequate in addressing the injurious subsidization established by the Commission&#8217;s investigation, monitorable and enforceable,&#8221;
