His return to the campaign trail follows a rousing speech at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/article\/2024\/aug\/23\/democratic-national-convention-key-moments\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">the Democratic National Convention in August<\/a>, in which he cast Harris as a forward-looking figure and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/article\/2024\/aug\/21\/barack-michelle-obama-dnc-speech-harris-trump\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">a natural heir<\/a> to his diverse, youth-powered political coalition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">\u201cWe do not need four more years of bluster and bumbling and chaos,\u201d he told the convention in August. \u201cWe have seen that movie before and we all know that the sequel is usually worse. America is ready for a new chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">Harris was one of Obama\u2019s earliest supporters when he launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/article\/2024\/aug\/20\/obama-speech-dnc-harris-hope\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">a long-shot presidential bid against Hillary Clinton in 2007<\/a>. She would go on to knock on doors for him ahead of the Iowa caucuses in 2008.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">Harris\u2019s campaign already includes several former Obama campaign staff, including strategist David Plouffe, Stephanie Cutter \u2013 who was Obama\u2019s deputy campaign manager in 2012 \u2013 and Mitch Stewart, Obama\u2019s grassroots strategist for both campaigns. Stewart is Harris\u2019s adviser for battleground states, among which Pennsylvania is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2024\/oct\/02\/pennsylvania-senate-race-democrats\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">must-win<\/a> for either side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1eu361v\">Key to winning Pennsylvania could be winning the Latino vote. About 90,000 Latino voters might still be undecided, according to Penn State professor, A K Sandoval-Strausz, writing in the <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/latino-voters-are-a-growing-force-in-pennsylvanias-old-industrial-towns-and-they-could-provide-harris-or-trump-with-their-margin-of-victory-239796\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Conversation<\/a>, who argues that an endorsement for Harris from Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny could have a greater impact on the election than Taylor Swift\u2019s. In 2020, Biden won the state by 80,000 votes \u2013 or a single point.
