Then 23, she\u2019d been acting since she was 9, and had already garnered two Oscar nominations. \u201cLady Bird,\u201d Greta Gerwig\u2019s debut as a solo director, would earn Ronan a third. Another followed, in 2019, for her role as Jo March in Gerwig\u2019s \u201c<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/12\/23\/movies\/little-women-review.html\" title=\"\">Little Women<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">This year, Oscars buzz surrounds Ronan once again, thanks to her leading roles in Nora Fingscheidt\u2019s \u201cThe Outrun,\u201d which opens in theaters Friday, and Steve McQueen\u2019s \u201cBlitz<em class=\"css-2fg4z9 e1gzwzxm0\">,\u201d <\/em>out Nov. 1st.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ronan\u2019s career reads as a series of evolutions, pushing into new territory with every role \u2014 over the years, she has also played a 1950s Irish immigrant in New York, a child assassin, a vampire, Lady Macbeth and Mary, Queen of Scots. Now 30, with over two decades of experience in front of the camera, the Irish actress has committed herself in \u201cThe Outrun\u201d to a character containing multitudes: a woman raised in a remote island community, who returns to recover from her addiction to alcohol.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-2\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cIt was so much more than just making a film for me,\u201d Ronan said, in a video interview from New York.
