{"id":110719,"date":"2024-10-05T15:24:54","date_gmt":"2024-10-05T08:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=110719"},"modified":"2024-10-05T15:24:54","modified_gmt":"2024-10-05T08:24:54","slug":"helene-destroyed-this-north-carolina-campground-but-customers-and-strangers-are-stepping-in-to-help","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=110719","title":{"rendered":"Helene destroyed this North Carolina campground, but customers and strangers are stepping in to help"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p><em>Newland, North Carolina<\/em> \u2014 At the Mountain River Family Campground in <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/hurricane-helene-satellite-images-north-carolina\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">western North Carolina<\/a><\/span>, the North Toe River isn&#8217;t the only thing that gushes \u2014customers do too.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s beautiful because you&#8217;re kind of nestled in a valley in this campground,&#8221; one guest told CBS News. <\/p>\n<p>This week, the remnants of <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/hurricane-helene-survivors-north-carolina-rescue\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Hurricane Helene<\/a><\/span> turned this slice of heaven into a hellscape.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"newsletter_signup \">\n<figure class=\"embed embed--type-newsletter-widget embed--float-none embed--size-large embed--type-iframe\" data-ads=\"{\" wordcount=\"\">\n<\/figure>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Suzanne Garland&#8217;s family owns the campground. The first time she returned after the storm, she couldn&#8217;t believe her eyes. Every building and every bit of infrastructure was erased. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It just looks like a tornado just ripped everything up and spit it back out,&#8221; Garland said. &#8220;\u2026I just can&#8217;t believe this is real.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As of Friday, at least 225 deaths across six states have been attributed to Helene, including 114 in North Carolina. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My heart goes out to everyone who has experienced the unthinkable loss,&#8221; President Biden said Wednesday <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/biden-hurricane-helene-north-carolina-south-carolina\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">after surveying the destruction<\/a><\/span> across the Carolinas. &#8220;But we&#8217;re here for you.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Mr. Biden estimated that recovery and rebuilding efforts in the Southeast will cost &#8220;billions of dollars,&#8221; and said the federal government will cover all debris removal and emergency protective measure costs in North Carolina for six months. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was just like the campground itself was calling out to us that it was still there,&#8221; Garland said. &#8220;You know what I mean? Like after all the destruction, the little snippets that we would find, it was just like, it was reminding us, like, I&#8217;m still here. Don&#8217;t give up on me. Like, rebuild me, come back for me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Like many ravaged by the storm, the Garlands&#8217; first inclination was to move. But then, like many, they saw the sunrise, and the morning light worked its magic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was like, a little reminder that in all the darkness, the light will always find a way to push through,&#8221; Garland said. &#8220;&#8230;And I just knew right then and there that we couldn&#8217;t walk away from it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And the day was about to get brighter still. On their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtnriverwnc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">website<\/a>, old customers and total strangers began reserving campsites.
