He was 63.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tCiccone had been battling cancer and died peacefully, surrounded by his husband, Ray Thacker, and other loved ones, according to a statement from Ciccone\u2019s rep.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tCiccone, who got his start as a dancer and choreographer, used his talents to support Madonna\u2019s emerging career, becoming dresser and creative consultant to his superstar sister. He also directed music videos and tours, including Madonna\u2019s The Girlie Show world tour in 1993. And he was the art director for her 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHe went on to work as an interior, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/christopher-ciccone-madonnas-brother-dances-his-way-to-new-shoe-collection\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">footwear<\/a> and furniture designer and artist and wrote the 2008 best-selling book <em>Life With My Sister Madonna<\/em>, which led to reports that the siblings had had a falling-out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tCiccone claimed Madonna outed him in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.advocate.com\/news\/2007\/07\/23\/madonna-x-rated-interview\" target=\"_blank\">a 1991 interview with <em>The Advocate<\/em><\/a>, where she identified him as \u201cgay,\u201d and he accused Madonna\u2019s ex-husband Guy Ritchie of being homophobic. He said the \u201cturning point\u201d in their relationship came when she brought cameras to their mother\u2019s grave for her 1991 documentary, <em>Truth or Dare<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI kept it inside but I thought to myself, \u2018OK, there are no boundaries now.\u2019 You know, my mother\u2019s now become a side \u2014 a bit player in her life, life story, and it hurt me,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/GMA\/SummerConcert\/story?id=5366168&amp;page=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told <em>Good Morning America<\/em> in 2008<\/a>. \u201cAnd my opinion of her altered at that moment. I never said anything about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHe added, \u201cI think, ultimately, she\u2019s a lonely person and, unfortunately, it truly is lonely at the top.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMadonna\u2019s longtime rep Liz Rosenberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/07\/11\/arts\/11iht-peepfri.2.14393498.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told the Associated Press at the time<\/a> that the artist didn\u2019t read the tell-all but found it \u201cvery upsetting\u201d that Christopher \u201cdecided to sell a book based on his sister.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI would have to assume she has come to terms with the fact that they do not have a close and loving relationship,\u201d Rosenberg said. \u201cAnd with the book coming out, I assume that will remove the chances of that ever happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBut in 2012 interviews, Ciccone indicated they had patched things up. \u201cOur relationship is fine as far as I\u2019m concerned,\u201d he told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/christopher-ciccone-madonnas-brother-dances-his-way-to-new-shoe-collection\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CBS News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHe added to <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/lifestyle\/london-life\/christopher-ciccone-no-one-sees-madonna-s-children-my-parents-barely-even-see-them-8139207.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Evening Standard<\/a><\/em>: \u201cWe are in contact with each other, although I haven\u2019t seen her for a long time. We\u2019re back to being a brother and sister. I don\u2019t work for her, and it\u2019s better this way. \u2026 I couldn\u2019t be more proud of her. She is a force to be reckoned with. Does she have Barbra Streisand\u2019s voice? No. Can she dance like Martha Graham? Probably not. But the combination of her abilities has made her great and left a huge legacy for her, and through her, for me. So yeah, God bless her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMadonna remembered Ciccone in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DAy1hZpSqqd\/?hl=en&amp;img_index=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an Instagram post later Sunday<\/a>, in which she looked back at their life together, describing him as \u201cthe closest human to me for so long\u201d and that though they \u201cdid not speak for sometime,\u201d when he became sick, \u201cWe found our way back to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIts hard to explain our bond. But it grew out of an understanding that we were different and society was going to give us a hard time for not following the status quo,\u201d Madonna wrote, alongside a carousel of photos of Ciccone. \u201cWe took each other\u2018s hands and we danced through the madness of our childhood. In fact dance was a kind of superglue that held us together. Discovering dance in our small Midwestern town saved me and then my brother came along, and it saved him too. My ballet teacher, also named Christopher, created a safe space for my brother to be Gay, a word that was not spoken or even whispered where we lived. When I finally got the courage to go to New York to become a dancer. My brother followed. And again we took each other\u2019s hands, and we danced through the madness of New York City!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShe added, \u201cWe defied the Roman Catholic Church, the police, the moral majority and all Authority figures that got in the way of artistic freedom! My brother was right by my side. He was a painter a poet and a visionary. I admired him. He had impeccable taste. And a sharp tongue, Which he sometimes used against me but I always forgave him. We soared the highest heights together and floundered in the lowest lows. Somehow, we always found each other again and we held hands and we kept dancing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThe last few years have not been easy. We did not speak for sometime but when my brother got sick, we found our way back to each other. I did my best to keep him alive as long as possible. He was in so much pain towards the end. Once again, we held hands, We closed our eyes and we danced. Together. I\u2019m glad he\u2019s not suffering anymore. There will never be anyone like him. I know he\u2019s dancing somewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tCiccone did commercial interior design for restaurants in New York City, Miami and Los Angeles, the corporate boxes for London\u2019s O2 arena and a Miami Beach luxury condo development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHis furniture design for Bernhardt Furniture was chosen to be used in President Bill Clinton\u2019s New York office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tChristopher Gerard Ciccone was born in Pontiac, Michigan, on Nov. 20, 1960, the fifth child and third son of Madonna Louise and Silvio Patrick Ciccone.
