The actress joined <em>General Hospital <\/em>in 2003 and starred in more than 2,200 episodes, with fellow soap star Lindsay Hartley briefly filling in while Monaco was on temporary leave in 2020, 2022 and 2024. Prior to her role on <em>General Hospital, <\/em>Monaco previously portrayed\u00a0Livvie Locke\u00a0on the its spinoff\u00a0<em>Port Charles<\/em>\u00a0from 1999 to 2003.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAs the <em>Los Angeles Times <\/em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/tv\/story\/2024-08-27\/kelly-monaco-general-hospital-exit-fan-backlash\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>, news of the sudden exit did not sit well with fans, who took to social media to air their grievances, even starting a Change.org petition on the matter. Soap Opera Digest, which first wrote about the departure, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.soapoperadigest.com\/content\/kelly-monaco-out-as-general-hospitals-sam-mccall\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> that the exit was dictated by upcoming storylines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMonaco\u2019s mother, Carmine Monaco, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/09\/kelly-monaco-last-day-general-hospital-1236102836\/\">wrote a message<\/a> of gratitude to fans on X last month: \u201cI want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly\u2019s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty, and support you\u2019ve shown her throughout her time on General Hospital. On this final day, just four days shy of the anniversary of her first episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close the door of her dressing room for the last time. This moment is a difficult one, but knowing that she has had such an incredible, devoted fan base has given her strength.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tChange is certainly afoot at\u00a0<em>GH<\/em>. In May, it was confirmed that <em>Monsters <\/em>star Nicholas Alexander Chavez <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/05\/nicholas-alexander-chavez-confirms-general-hospital-exit-spencer-1235904260\/\">would not be returning<\/a> to his role on the soap.
