In his<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/clicks.trx-hub.com\/xid\/pmc_0aaa4_rollingstone?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FWalking-Disaster-Life-Through-Heaven%2Fdp%2F166804501X%3FlinkCode%3Dll1%26tag%3Drs-editors-20%26linkId%3D303f2faa62b91f9ae76bafc5f93498f7%26language%3Den_US%26ref_%3Das_li_ss_tl%26asc_source%3Dweb%26asc_campaign%3Dweb%26asc_refurl%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.rollingstone.com%252Fmusic%252Fmusic-news%252Fsum-41-deryck-whibley-manager-greig-nori-sexual-abuse-allegations-1235128359%252F&amp;p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rollingstone.com%2Fmusic%2Fmusic-news%2Fsum-41-deryck-whibley-manager-greig-nori-sexual-abuse-allegations-1235128359%2F&amp;ref=pmcTrackonomicsReferrer&amp;event_type=click\"> memoir <em>Walking Disaster<\/em><\/a>, out Tuesday, the Sum 41 frontman claims he was groomed and sexually and verbally abused by the band\u2019s first manager, Greig Nori, during the early stages of the band\u2019s career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI always thought that I would take this to my grave and I wouldn\u2019t say anything,\u201d Whibley tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cAs I started getting into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/book\/\" id=\"auto-tag_book\" data-tag=\"book\">book<\/a>, I felt like, \u2018How could I not be honest?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn the memoir, per<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2024-10-07\/sum-41s-deryck-whibley-alleges-sexual-abuse-by-former-manager-in-new-memoir-walking-disaster\"> <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a>, Whibley discusses how<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sum-41-teenage-rock-roll-machine-181266\/\"> Sum 41 started working<\/a> with Nori \u2014 who fronts Canadian punk band Treble Charger \u2014 when Whibley was 16 and Nori was 34. Whibley alleges that the manager was the first person to serve him and his bandmates alcohol and that Nori slowly went from music mentor to controlling and abusive boss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhibley claims that while at a rave, Nori asked Whibley, who was 18 at the time, to come to a restroom stall to do ecstasy with him. Inside the restroom, Nori grabbed his face and \u201cpassionately\u201d kissed him, Whibley writes in the book. Whibley says he was stunned and that Nori claimed he had never had same-sex attraction and that what the two of them had \u201cwas so special.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAs time went on, Whibley writes that he tried to push away the physical relationship with the former manager and that Nori called him homophobic in response, saying Whibley \u201cowed\u201d him for helping start their career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tPer the <em>Times<\/em>, the sexual encounters concluded after a mutual friend of his and Nori\u2019s found out what he had been through. Although the sexual aspect of the abuse ended, Nori continued to allegedly be abusive to the group, forcing the band to mark him as co-writer on songs and failing to respond to requests. The band fired him in 2005, and Whibley says he hadn\u2019t spoken to him since.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cOnce I get to that Greig Nori stuff, I was like \u2018Do I talk about this?\u2019 But how could I not? In the book, he writes that Lavigne exclaimed, \u201cThat\u2019s abuse!,\u201d when he confided in her, and said, \u201cHe sexually abused you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI went through a long period of my time where I didn\u2019t think about it anymore. I came to realize it was self-defense,\u201d he tells<em> Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cI came to realize later on that I didn\u2019t want to think about it or have any feelings of being a victim. I didn\u2019t want to have victim issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhibley says he doesn\u2019t call what he went through \u201cabuse\u201d in the book. When asked if, today, he sees what he went through as \u201cabuse,\u201d Whibley says he\u2019s still in the \u201cearly stages\u201d of processing what he went through.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m dealing with it for the first time and I don\u2019t know what I think about it. I can\u2019t deny that it was very manipulative, but I didn\u2019t really realize what a lot of this was,\u201d Whibley says. \u201cIt didn\u2019t dawn on me until I hit the age he was, in his mid-30s, when I was a teenager. He also told the <em>Times<\/em> Nori \u201ctried to keep\u201d his and his bandmates\u2019 parents away from the band.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cNow it makes more sense. Because he was the same age as our parents, and we didn\u2019t know that at the time. He knew they would get suspicious of the way things were running,\u201d he told the <em>Times<\/em>. \u201cHe would always be like, \u2018You can\u2019t have a relationship with your parents and be in a rock band. It\u2019s not cool. Just fucking write the true story.\u2019 And I never stopped.
