That decline also came before spring wage negotiations delivered the largest pay hikes to unionized Japanese workers in 33 years.<\/p>\n<p>However, real wages rose in August, with data from the country&#8217;s statistics bureau indicating that wages climbed 2% to an average of 574,334 yen ($3,877.44).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>The benchmark <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\">Nikkei 225<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> slipped 1% after the release and closed at 38,937.54, while the Topix was shed 1.47% to end at 2,699.15<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\">Kospi<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> slipped 0.61% to close at 2,594.36, dragged by shares of heavyweight Samsung Electronics after it released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/08\/samsung-posts-worse-than-expected-guidance-for-third-quarter.html\">worse-than-expected third-quarter guidance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The small cap Kosdaq edged 0.35% lower, closing at 778.24.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-6\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> slipped 0.35% to close at 8,176.9.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Overnight in the U.S., stocks slid as rising oil prices and higher Treasury yields weighed on market sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0dropped 0.94%, while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\">S&amp;P 500<\/a>\u00a0slid 0.96%. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0 saw the largest loss, falling 1.18%.<\/p>\n<p>The benchmark\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/US10Y\/\">10-year Treasury yield<\/a>\u00a0rose to 4.02%, marking the first time since August that the yield topped 4%.<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices also rose as tensions in the Middle East remain high.
