Vance\u2019s response has been <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TrackingLink LinkWrapper\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/harris-campaign-ad-slams-jd-vance-as-election-denier\">featured prominently<\/a> in Harris campaign ads in the week since.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat should have been the lede, don\u2019t you think?\u201d Walz said, when Kimmel asked him about it. \u201cEighty-five minutes before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s crazy,\u201d Kimmel agreed, then referenced how Capitol rioters were <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TrackingLink LinkWrapper\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/trump-defends-capitol-rioters-hang-mike-pence-chants-saying-people-were-very-angry\">chanting \u201cHang Mike Pence!\u201d<\/a> on Jan. 6. \u201cAlthough you have to remember, also, the last vice president who said he thought Trump lost the election wound up being chased out of the Capitol building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA self-preservation mode,\u201d Walz joked. He said Vance\u2019s non-answer was \u201cvery surreal to sit there and listen to,\u201d although he described himself as \u201can eternal optimist\u201d who hoped the country could move on from election deniers running for office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis idea that we could have different ideas, but we have unity, love for democracy, have an election, and then shake hands, and admit that the person who won <em>won<\/em>,\u201d Walz said. \u201cI think some of those things, we all grew up with pretty commonly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walz also criticized Vance\u2019s debate answer on gun control, where the Trump vice presidential pick described school shootings as \u201c<a class=\"LinkWrapper LinkWrapper--external\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/jd-vance-georgia-shooting-7d7727a1aff8491f66914a4d8a14cd8c\">a fact of life<\/a>\u201d and offered solutions that revolved around improving school security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike the vice president, I simply refuse to accept [it],\u201d Walz said. \u201cDonald Trump tells us to get over it, JD Vance says, you know, \u2018This is just a fact of life\u2019 or whatever.
