Consumers will see the new look roll out beginning next May.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1tjon6s000h3b6mzo6b1q93@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The changes come amid slowing demand in North America for PepsiCo\u2019s beverages, and, more specifically, a sharp decline in volume for Mountain Dew, which have fallen 7% in the first half of 2024, according to figures provided to CNN from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beverage-digest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beverage Digest<\/a>, a trade publication.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1tiuosw00003b6m1y2imea0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cMountain Dew appears ready to shake off the adrenaline rush that has defined the brand\u2019s marketing for almost two decades, when a key strategy was to market Dew like an energy drink to an energy drink crowd,\u201d Duane Stanford, editor and publisher of Beverage Digest, told CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1upg0oc00003b6m614vc39n@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Tapping into nostalgia, the new logo marks the return of \u201cmountain,\u201d which<strong> <\/strong>was dropped in 2009 as part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bevnet.com\/news\/2008\/10-13-2008-pepsi_redesign.asp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">larger rebrand<\/a> of PepsiCo\u2019s soda portfolio, which also included a refreshed look for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/01\/11\/business\/starry-launch-sierra-mist\/index.html\">now-defunct Sierra Mist<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1upltn400033b6m3zursb4o@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Spelling out the word mountain is a \u201cdirect link to the origins of the brand, which is the mountains and the outdoors,\u201d said Mauro Porcini, senior vice president and chief design officer at PepsiCo, who led the redesign. A nod to its founding date of 1948, when it was <a href=\"https:\/\/contact.pepsico.com\/mtndew\/article\/when-was-mountain-dew-invented-how-did-it-get-its-name\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">created as a mixer<\/a> in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains, was also added to the logo.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1upuys700083b6mmot7sjhf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Hardcore Dew fans might recognize the new logo slightly resembles the logo used in the 1990s, but Porcini told CNN that it\u2019s \u201cmodernized and projected to feel the three-dimensionality\u201d \u201cIn the previous design, we were not very clear in communicating the refreshment cues,\u201d Porcini admitted. \u201cIt was more about the energy of the sharp angles exploding on the can.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1uqhn8s001j3b6mg01vlvcf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Mountain Dew has long been marketed as an energy drink because of its sugar and caffeine content, but the new look is meant to conjure up a \u201cdifferent kind of energy that\u2019s coming from the outdoors,\u201d Porcini said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" soda brand recently brought back its famous \u201cDo the Dew\u201d tagline and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DD1RYLL_NJg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">introduced the Mountain Dude<\/a>, a new character that encourages Gen-Z to peel their eyes from screens and enjoy the outdoors.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1uqwcfg001p3b6m0itl6w5j@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A major change in marketing is essential for Mountain Dew. PepsiCo has \u201clittle choice\u201d but to improve its sales since the beverage is one of its biggest brands, Stanford said. PepsiCo also owns Rockstar Energy and has a half-billion-dollar investment in Celsius, a trendy energy drink brand, so \u201cthe need for Dew to compete as an energy brand isn\u2019t as critical.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm1uq1wm3000m3b6mbqyqtmz0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Rolling out a refreshed look comes amid a tough time for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/09\/24\/food\/coca-cola-spiced-discontinued\/index.html\">soda manufacturers<\/a>.
