While it\u2019s likely the explicit nature of the eye black triggered the league review, NFL rules state that players are prohibited from &#8220;wearing, displaying or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what messaging you\u2019re talking about regarding his eye black,\u201d Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday when asked about Pickens, via ESPN.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t have any outlying issue with his effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>If Pickens is indeed fined, that is expected to be announced on Saturday among the other fines handed out by the league.<\/p>\n<p>Pickens has 310 receiving yards and has yet to catch a touchdown through five games this season, his third with the Steelers. The 23-year-old played a career-low 34 snaps in the loss to the Cowboys, however, and he had just three catches for 26 yards. Pickens\u2019 low snap count was due to a \u201csnap management\u201d strategy, Tomlin said on Tuesday. Pickens also was seen pulling Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis down by the facemask after the game.<\/p>\n<p>While he isn\u2019t willing to address it publicly, Tomlin said he has talked to Pickens about that incident and more in private.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s certainly things that I&#8217;m open to addressing and will and do,&#8221; Tomlin said. &#8220;I just don&#8217;t detail, and in settings like this because it&#8217;s business between he and I in terms of his growth and development as a player and as a man. I just don&#8217;t think it aids that growth and the development to address it in open settings such as this regarding his behavior.
