Sophy says he worked \u201cdiligently, independently and fairly\u201d to help the couple resolve their disputes and ceased communication with Dre when the pair reached a settlement in late 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe doctor says that about 14 months later, Dre started texting him out of the blue with allegations the doctor had somehow acted improperly \u2014 allegations the doctor denies. \u201cRather than treating the mediation process as an opportunity for healing, Young decided to take his frustrations about the mediation out on Dr. Sophy \u2014 frustrations that manifested themselves in the form of a nearly year-long sustained campaign of late-night texts, threats of intimidation and violence, and homophobic rhetoric,\u201d the lawsuit states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn a statement, Dre\u2019s lawyer Howard King tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> that Dre previously filed a \u201cconfidential complaint\u201d against Sophy with the Osteopathic Medical Board of California last year seeking \u201cto get Dr. Sophy punished for dereliction of duties and incredible incompetence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThat complaint seeks revocation of Dr. Sophy\u2019s license to provide mental health counseling to needy patients. In gross violation of all applicable standards of care, Dr. Sophy inserted himself into a contentious divorce while he simultaneously \u2018treated\u2019 not only Mr. and Mrs. Young, but their children. He was terminated when it was revealed that he was encouraging one of their children to take sides against Mr. Young, even encouraging his son to go to the press with false allegations in order to force a financial settlement that he recommended,\u201d King claims in the statement. \u201cDr. Sophy has consistently rebuffed Medical Board attempts to investigate these claims, but has now filed this desperate suit while the noose of the Medical Board is tightening.\u201d<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ recirculation-modules a-span1 lrv-u-padding-b-1 u-padding-b-175@desktop-xl lrv-u-padding-t-025 u-overflow-hidden u-border-color-brand-primary u-border-tb-5 lrv-u-padding-b-075@mobile-max\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  recirculation-modules-heading lrv-u-flex u-font-family-theme-primary lrv-u-font-size-20 lrv-u-color-brand-primary lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-012 lrv-u-position-relative lrv-u-padding-b-025 lrv-u-padding-b-1@desktop-xl lrv-u-padding-b-075@mobile-max\">\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAccording to Sophy\u2019s 22-page lawsuit signed by his lawyer Christopher Frost and obtained by <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, Sophy says Dre sent him an \u201covertly threatening\u201d text around 10 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2023, in which he claimed someone told him something \u201cdisturbing\u201d and that Sophy was \u201cgoing to have to pay for that.\u201d Sophy says he replied, \u201cExcuse me,\u201d and shortly after that, Dre allegedly responded, \u201cYes you,\u201d and, \u201cYou\u2019re a piece of shit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSophy says he \u201ctried to remain calm\u201d and attempted to \u201cdefuse the situation.\u201d He says he responded the next day with, \u201cGood morning I have no idea what you are referring to and would make myself available to discuss anytime. Thank you.\u201d He says Dre \u201cdoubled down\u201d with a follow-up message that read, \u201cYou fucked up!! Just so you know, I love being under estimated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSophy says Dre \u201cfalsely accused\u201d him of trying to turn an unidentified third party against him. He says Dre \u201cwrongfully accused\u201d him of acting improperly during the divorce mediation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThere is no truth behind these baseless and far-fetched accusations,\u201d the new lawsuit states. \u201cDr. Sophy tried to let the threats go and not pursue them. Young however, would not let go.\u201d According to the complaint, Dre sent another text on March 5, 2023, that read, \u201cWhat happened Doc? I thought you wanted to talk. Cat go your tongue? You\u2019re going to have to give me a written apology. If not, I\u2019m moving forward. I\u2019m not playing, trust me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSophy claims that in June 2023, Dre tried to force him to unlawfully disclose confidential information obtained during a therapy session with a third party. Sophy says he refused and \u201cagain tried to stay calm and hope that Young\u2019s threats, harassment and intimidation would stop.\u201d On Aug. 4, 2023, Dre sent another \u201cdisturbing and chilling text message\u201d in which he allegedly threatened, \u201cDon\u2019t worry I haven\u2019t forgotten about you,\u201d the lawsuit states.
