Discovery\u2019s Max, Paramount Global\u2019s Paramount+, Sony\u2019s Crunchyroll and Amazon-owned MGM+.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe deal to bring Apple TV+ into Prime Video is part of Amazon\u2019s strategy to aggregate as many entertainment options as it can for customers \u2014 available on one bill, in one app.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cPrime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering a wide selection of premium programming,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/mike-hopkins\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mike-hopkins\" data-tag=\"mike-hopkins\">Mike Hopkins<\/a>, SVP and Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said in announcing the pact. \u201cAs we continue to expand our offering and make it easy for customers to personalize their streaming experience directly in one app, we are proud to welcome Apple TV+ and its popular and critically acclaimed shows, films and events to Prime Video.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe two companies already work together on the devices side: Amazon\u2019s Fire TV family provides a native Apple TV+ app, and the Apple TV 4K boxes stream Prime Video. But the new deal raises their business partnership to a new level. Amazon takes a certain percentage cut of subscription revenue for streaming services purchased via Prime Video, but it doesn\u2019t disclose those terms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAt the Bloomberg Screentime conference in L.A. Thursday evening, Hopkins was asked how the Prime Video distribution deal benefits Apple, to which he responded that Amazon can offer Apple TV+ to \u201chundreds of millions of subscribers around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis past April, CEO Andy Jassy said <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/digital\/news\/amazon-prime-video-200-million-monthly-viewers-tv-advertising-ceo-1235967913\/\">Prime Video had surpassed 200 million monthly viewers<\/a>. That number don\u2019t indicate engagement, where Prime Video trails Netflix: For example, in August 2024, Netflix had 7.9% share of total U.S. TV time spent viewing versus 3.1% for Prime Video, per Nielsen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tApple TV+ offers a lineup of original shows including \u201cSeverance,\u201d \u201cSlow Horses,\u201d \u201cThe Morning Show,\u201d \u201cPresumed Innocent,\u201d \u201cShrinking,\u201d \u201cHijack,\u201d \u201cLoot,\u201d \u201cPalm Royale,\u201d as well as films such as \u201cWolfs\u201d starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney and \u201cThe Instigators\u201d starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. The streaming service also offers Major League Soccer and Major League Baseball games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tEddy Cue, Apple\u2019s SVP of services, said in a statement, \u201cWe want to make Apple TV+ and its award-winning library of series and films from the world\u2019s greatest storytellers available to as many viewers as possible. We\u2019re thrilled that Prime Video will now offer Apple TV+, giving viewers an incredible breadth of viewing options.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPrime Video is one of the key perks of the Prime membership program, which in the U.S. costs $139 per year (or $14.99 per month). Alternatively, consumers can sign up for a stand-alone Prime Video membership for $8.99 monthly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn January, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/tv\/news\/amazon-prime-video-advertising-revenue-forecast-1235888805\/\">Prime Video began serving ads in TV shows and movies by default<\/a> and offered customers the option to pay $2.99\/month extra for an ads-free experience. (Disgruntled Prime users have sued Amazon over the change; the company is seeking to <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/digital\/news\/amazon-motion-dismiss-lawsuit-prime-video-ads-1236170304\/\">dismiss the suit<\/a>.) This summer, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/digital\/news\/amazon-prime-video-interface-update-whats-new-1236081109\/\">revamped Prime Video\u2019s user interface<\/a>, aiming to boost engagement and make it easier to see what\u2019s included for no additional charge with the streaming service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPrime Video\u2019s original programming includes Amazon MGM Studios-produced series and movies such as \u201cRoad House,\u201d \u201cThe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,\u201d \u201cFallout,\u201d \u201cReacher,\u201d \u201cThe Boys\u201d and \u201cThe Idea of You\u201d plus licensed content.
