Instead, they are shifting trips to cooler months, a trend that airline officials have been noticing over the past couple of years as consumers look to escape crowds and record heat of popular destinations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The weather in Europe in August is really hot, and that people who have choices when they can take their vacations are moving into let&#8217;s call it more temperate months,&#8221; Hauenstein said Thursday on an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/10\/delta-air-lines-dal-3q-2024-earnings.html\">earnings call<\/a>. Corporate [travel] we haven&#8217;t seen much change year over year but it&#8217;s continuing to shift travel to Europe in particular from July and August peak to a September and October peak.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Summer\u00a0this year in the Northern Hemisphere was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/09\/06\/climate-crisis-world-logs-its-hottest-summer-on-record.html\">hottest on record<\/a>, according to the European Union&#8217;s climate monitor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-relatedContent\" id=\"RegularArticle-RelatedContent-1\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-container\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-nonCollapsibleContent\">\n<h2 class=\"RelatedContent-header\">Read more CNBC airline news<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Airlines have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/09\/29\/summers-over-but-the-european-travel-season-isnt.html\">extending robust trans-Atlantic schedules<\/a> through much of the fall to cater to the shifting patterns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What we&#8217;re doing at United is we&#8217;re extending the season,&#8221; Patrick Quayle, <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/UAL\/\">United Airlines<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span>&#8216; senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, said in an interview earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>He said the carrier opted to begin some European routes in March and April this year and will fly some of them through late October and early November. &#8220;What we&#8217;re seeing is, more and more, travelers are going in those shoulder seasons where you can get a bit more value, and I think the weather&#8217;s a bit better,&#8221;
