{"id":112801,"date":"2024-10-11T05:43:44","date_gmt":"2024-10-10T22:43:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=112801"},"modified":"2024-10-11T05:43:44","modified_gmt":"2024-10-10T22:43:44","slug":"trumps-complaints-about-60-minutes-put-a-spotlight-on-editing-at-the-nations-top-newsmagazine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=112801","title":{"rendered":"Trump&#8217;s complaints about &#8217;60 Minutes&#8217; put a spotlight on editing at the nation&#8217;s top newsmagazine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Donald Trump <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-cbs-60-minutes-harris-interview-759c54bf1b8225644dd7e69ae0ceb4a7\">skipped<\/a><\/span> a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d interview this past week, but he\u2019s attacking CBS for how it handled its session with opponent <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/kamala-harris\">Kamala Harris<\/a><\/span>, calling it a \u201cgiant fake news scam\u201d and suggesting the network was out to protect her.<\/p>\n<p>Portions of the Harris interview ran Monday on the newsmagazine and on the Sunday morning political show \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d On two occasions, it depicted Harris giving different answers to questions posed by correspondent Bill Whitaker on the Biden administration\u2019s efforts to stop the <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-hamas-war-hezbollah-lebanon-anniversary-73916b17394f093f01ca5554cf26b528\">war in the Mideast<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>For CBS News, it was considered part of the typical editing and cross-promotion process that takes place for a big interview. Yet to those unfamiliar with journalism and television production, the effect can be jarring.<\/p>\n<h2>How did Harris appear to give two answers?<\/h2>\n<p>Whitaker interviewed Harris on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28, in Washington for the special broadcast that aired Monday, two days later. But \u201c60 Minutes\u201d offered a portion of that interview to colleagues at \u201cFace the Nation,\u201d both to give the Sunday morning show some fresh news and to \u201ctease\u201d the longer interview.<\/p>\n<p>At one point, Whitaker observed that it appeared Israel\u2019s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, did not appear to be listening to the administration\u2019s suggestions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region,\u201d the vice president said in response, on the \u201cFace the Nation\u201d clip.<\/p>\n<p>On \u201c60 Minutes,\u201d after Whitaker said the same thing, Harris answered: \u201cWe\u2019re not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the differences were pointed out online, Trump said on his Truth Social feed that Harris\u2019 \u201cREAL ANSWER WAS CRAZY, OR DUMB, so they actually REPLACED it with another answer in order to save her or, at least, to make her look better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So what did Harris actually say to Whitaker?<\/p>\n<p>Well, both things, according to CBS. Her full answer to the question was the two sentences put together \u2014 the first sentence used on \u201cFace the Nation\u201d and the second sentence on \u201c60 Minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CBS said the need to make the \u201c60 Minutes\u201d interview segment concise prompted the editing. The full interview with Harris took 45 minutes, and it was fit into a 20-minute slot on the broadcast. Yet the editing made it appear that the answer shown on \u201c60 Minutes\u201d was the first thing Harris said in response to the question. Having \u201cFace the Nation\u201d show Whitaker asking the question \u2014 instead of having someone paraphrase it \u2014 added to the confusion and made CBS vulnerable to criticism.<\/p>\n<p>The network would not respond to Trump\u2019s criticisms on the record but privately insisted nothing was done with the intention of benefiting Harris. The network has pointed out that the same process was in place when Trump was interviewed for the show several times earlier. <\/p>\n<p>Asked about the flap by Variety, an aide to the Harris campaign said that \u201cwe do not control CBS\u2019 production decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Two, not just one, interview answers were edited differently<\/h2>\n<p>According to an examination of the broadcasts, the same thing happened with the question that preceded Whitaker\u2019s observation that the Israeli leader did not appear to be listening to the U.S. Whitaker outlined a number of actions that Netanyahu had taken that the Biden administration had urged him not to, and asked, \u201cDoes the administration have no sway over Prime Minister Netanyahu?\u201d <\/p>\n<div class=\"Infobox\" data-module=\"\" data-gtm-region=\"What to know about the 2024 Election Today's news: Follow live updates from the campaign trail from the AP. Learn more.\" data-align-center=\"\">\n<div class=\"Infobox-items RichTextBody\">\n<p><b>What to know about the 2024 Election<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>On \u201c60 Minutes,\u201d Harris\u2019 answer was brief: \u201cThe work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet on \u201cFace the Nation,\u201d Harris was shown giving an answer that lasted a full minute \u2014 and did not even include the quote that was used on \u201c60 Minutes\u201d the next night. As part of that answer, Harris spoke of efforts to achieve a ceasefire and the release of hostages held by Hamas. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to stop in terms of putting the pressure on Israel and in the region, including Arab leaders,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump campaign has called for CBS News to release a full, unedited transcript of the Harris interview. \u201cWhat do they, and Kamala, have to hide?\u201d said Karoline Leavitt, the campaign\u2019s press secretary. The show sometimes airs longer versions of interviews online but does not release unedited transcripts.<\/p>\n<p>During his 2020 campaign against Democrat Joe Biden, Trump was so annoyed with his interview with \u201c60 Minutes\u201d correspondent Lesley Stahl that he cut short the session, and later <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/donald-trump-posts-unedited-60-minutes-3db1eb99671dc9549bae010ef7d024f2\">released the campaign\u2019s recording<\/a><\/span> of the full, unedited interview.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, some of Trump\u2019s critics have condemned the media this fall for <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-media-election-rallies-facts-kamala-harris-e906e990b5dcfe44b5e672336fe82b32\">editing and sanitizing<\/a><\/span> some of his words during rallies and social media posts, a process they\u2019ve called \u201csanewashing.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>___<\/h2>\n<p>David Bauder writes about media for the AP.
