(NOAA)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><strong>COLLEGE PARK, Md. &#8212;<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/la-nina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Ni\u00f1a<\/a> is still running late, and when it finally gets here, doesn\u2019t look like it\u2019s now going to stick around very long, and that could adjust some of the winter seasonal outlooks.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Water temperatures in the central Pacific Ocean have been holding steady near long-term average levels during the past few months instead of exhibiting much of any cooling trend that would be expected in a budding\u00a0La Ni\u00f1a, which is considered when water temperatures drop at least 0.5 degrees C (0.9 degrees F) below long-term averages. The latest measurements posted for the October update <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/late-la-nina-enso-hurricane-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">are about the same as September\u2019s update<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/el-nino-la-nina-climate-explainer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>WHAT ARE THE EL NINO AND LA NINA PATTERNS?<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">El Ni\u00f1o-La Ni\u00f1a weather-related patterns are also indicative of those tropical Pacific water temperatures near average \u2014 known as the &#8220;neutral&#8221; phase of the &#8220;El Ni\u00f1o Southern Oscillation Cycle&#8221; &#8211; or ENSO.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">As such, the odds for La Ni\u00f1a coming this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/winter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winter<\/a> have waned a little, but it is still the favored outcome, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/products\/analysis_monitoring\/enso_advisory\/ensodisc.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to NOAA\u2019s Climate Prediction Center<\/a>. Forecasters give a 60% chance of La Ni\u00f1a arriving in the coming month. \u00a0Only now the favored outcome is a weak La Ni\u00f1a that may only last through the mid-winter.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;A weaker La Ni\u00f1a implies that it would be less likely to result in conventional winter impacts,&#8221; that comes up just short could still combine with above-average water temperatures and other factors to produce an active late hurricane season in some waters.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;Broadly speaking, even if we don&#8217;t officially get to La Ni\u00f1a, the likely cool neutral ENSO combined with the extremely warm Caribbean could lead to a busy late season in the Caribbean,&#8221;
