Cleveland Clinic and the University of Southern California.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">The risk of a major cardiac event doubled for the three-year period following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/infectious-disease\/coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">positive COVID test<\/a>, researchers found \u2014 even for those with no history of heart disease.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers analyzed data from 10,005 people 50 and older who had COVID and 217,730 who did not contract the virus, pulled from UK Biobank between February and December 2020.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/myocarditis-young-males-covid-vaccine-new-study-suggests-what-may-cause-rare-heart-condition\" target=\"_blank\" that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/infectious-disease\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COVID-19 infection<\/a> can enhance risk for experiencing adverse cardiac events over time,&#8221; co-senior study author Stanley Hazen, MD, PhD, chair of cardiovascular and metabolic sciences in Cleveland Clinic\u2019s Lerner Research Institute and co-section head of preventive cardiology, told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers were surprised to find that the increased risk remained the same over the three-year period.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/covid-infected-patients-risk-20-types-heart-vascular-disease-study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>COVID INFECTED PATIENTS AT RISK FOR 20 TYPES OF HEART AND VASCULAR DISEASE: STUDY<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The twofold increased risk observed in year one following infection was also seen in year two and even year three,&#8221; Hazen noted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was seen in all subjects, independent of age, sex or risk factors for cardiac disease.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Those who had more adverse symptoms experienced a slightly infection and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/healthy-living\/health-care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">required hospitalization<\/a> were at even higher risk of experiencing a major adverse cardiac event (MACE=myocardial infarction, stroke or death) over the ensuing three years of follow-up,&#8221; Hazen said.<\/p>\n<p>Blood type also appeared to impact the risk, the study found.<\/p>\n<p>People with a blood type other than O \u2014 such as A, B or AB \u2014 had double the risk of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/nervous-system-health\/stroke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">major cardiac event<\/a> than those with an O blood type.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pull-quote\">\n<p class=\"quote-text\">&#8220;This study confirms what many of us have seen anecdotally over the past five years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> <!----><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Those with O blood have also been shown to have a higher likelihood of getting a COVID infection.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Given our collective observations and that 60% of the world&#8217;s population have these non-O blood types, our study raises important questions about whether more aggressive cardiovascular risk reduction efforts should be considered, possibly by taking into consideration an individual&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/medical-research\/genetics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">genetic makeup<\/a>,&#8221; Hazen said in a press release.<\/p>\n<div cardiovascular and anesthesiology services to hospitals nationwide, was not involved in the research but commented on the &#8220;interesting&#8221; findings.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This study confirms what
