(credit: REUTERS\/Mohammed Yassin)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>VOA\u2019s report of Hezbollah\u2019s lack of funding has come after Israel has reportedly escalated its attacks on the terror group\u2019s assets, including airstrikes on AQAH\u2019s branches, causing significant damage.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>AQAH has operated as a key financial institution since its founding in 1982 and has grown into a major source of funding for Hezbollah\u2019s operations, according to the report.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<section class=\"hide-for-premium\"> <\/section>\n<\/p>\n<h3><strong>&#8216;A very serious financial problem&#8217;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cHezbollah is facing a very serious financial problem. They are unable to pay rank-and-file members who have fled their homes and need to feed their families,\u201d said Hilal Khashan, a Lebanese political science professor.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>Furthermore, Lebanese finances have also been strained due to a loss of access to its banking system. According to the report, many of Lebanon\u2019s wealthiest bankers, who may have facilitated Hezbollah\u2019s money laundering activities, have fled the country, fearing Israeli reprisals.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>\u201cThese Lebanese bankers, most of them billionaires, see the wind is blowing against Hezbollah, so they are not going to let it take millions of dollars out of their banks,\u201d David Asher, a former US official, reportedly said.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<section class=\"hide-for-premium\">\n<section class=\"script-3632-container-wrap\">\n<hr\/>\n<div class=\"script-3632-container\">\n<div class=\"script-3632-text\">\n<p class=\"script-3632-text-first\">Stay updated with the latest news!<\/p>\n<p class=\"script-3632-text-second\">Subscribe to The Jerusalem Post Newsletter<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<hr\/>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m hearing from Lebanese bankers, including Hezbollah financiers, that Lebanon\u2019s wealthiest bankers who can afford to fly have fled to Europe and the Gulf, fearing they could be targeted next by Israel for helping Hezbollah,\u201d Asher noted.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve heard from my Israeli counterparts that the Iranians are scared to send money to Lebanon right now because Israel is threatening to target flights into Beirut. The Israelis are warning they will target flights full of money, not just weapons,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>Additionally, the report noted that flights carrying cash from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/tags\/iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iran to<\/a> Hezbollah had been interrupted by Israel\u2019s intensified air patrols over Beirut\u2019s airport. Israel warned it will target flights suspected of carrying money or weapons.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<section class=\"hide-for-premium\"> <\/section>\n<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the alleged financial hit that Hezbollah has been faced with, the group has appeared to keep its determination to fight intact.<\/p>\n<section class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"\/>\n<p>\u201cKeeping up the fight depends more on the availability of food and ammunition.
