The 81% drop is the steepest decline in history for a comic book movie, and among the steepest domestic declines for any movie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">An 81% drop places Joker: Folie \u00e0 Deux in the top 20 biggest second weekend drops ever, according to charts by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/chart\/biggest_second_weekend_gross_drop\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Box Office Mojo<\/a>, which measures box office data gathered since 1982.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">The record decline for a comic book movie was previously held by The Marvels, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2023\/nov\/13\/the-marvels-records-worst-ever-north-american-opening-weekend-performance-for-mcu-marvel-cinematic-universe\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">bombed at the box office last year<\/a> and suffered a 78% drop in its second weekend after being released in 4,030 cinemas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">Globally, Joker: Folie \u00e0 Deux has grossed $165m to date, far from making back its $200m budget.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">By comparison, Joker was made with a third of the budget of its sequel and opened to $96.2m in the US, making $248.4m globally in just one weekend.
