The initial reveal of the trio of robot products caused great excitement on social media, but, very quickly, praise turned to mockery as the designs were scrutinized with a host of people accusing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/elon-musk\/\" id=\"auto-tag_elon-musk_1\" data-tag=\"elon-musk\">Elon Musk<\/a>\u2018s company of ripping off the designs found in the 2004 sci-fi film<em> I, Robot<\/em> starring Will Smith. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTesla had dubbed the event \u201cWe, Robot,\u201d which plays into the title of Isaac Asimov\u2019s 1950 short-story collection on which the film is based, so there was some recognition of the cross-pollination of ideas. However, many on social media called out the uncanny resemblance that all three of Tesla\u2019s planned robot offerings have to similar products in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/alex-proyas\/\" id=\"auto-tag_alex-proyas_1\" data-tag=\"alex-proyas\">Alex Proyas<\/a>\u2018 film, which is set in 2035 Chicago.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"\/>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOptimus, a general-purpose robotic humanoid Tesla is currently developing that takes its name from the <em>Transformers<\/em> character, does bear similarities with the NS5 robots found in <em>I, Robot<\/em>.
