The organization said they remain optimistic that the supply of real North Carolina Fraser fir Christmas trees will not be significantly affected this holiday season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The Tar Heel State boasts <a href=\"https:\/\/ncchristmastrees.com\/tree-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">approximately 1,300 growers cultivating Fraser fir trees<\/a> on an estimated 40,000 acres, with 96% of the production concentrated in the western North Carolina mountain region, according to the association.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;Christmas tree farming is a livelihood and a large economic contributor to the western North Carolina mountain region,&#8221; Greene, said. &#8220;It will take some time to fully assess the extent and implications of damage to Christmas tree farms affected by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/hurricanes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hurricane<\/a>, but our farmers have weathered the storm and are ready to persevere.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">At this point, Greene said they are still gathering information from their farmers regarding the extent to which their farms were impacted by Helene.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;The next step will be working together to create a plan for harvest and shipping as we prioritize the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/safety\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">safety<\/a> and welfare of our farmers, their families and their workers,&#8221; she adds.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/north-carolina-family-hurricane-helene-mudslide-tragedy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>HELENE KILLS 11 MEMBERS OF THE SAME FAMILY AFTER MUDSLIDE DESTROYS THEIR COMMUNITY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"featured featured-video video-ct\">\n<div class=\"video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"info\">\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p class=\"sub-text\">Nearly three weeks after Helene swept through the Southeast, many communities are still reeling from its impacts as the extent of its devastation is coming into focus.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NCAgriculture\/posts\/964546102376297?ref=embed_post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">North Carolina Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler<\/a> described Helene as the most devastating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/disasters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disaster<\/a> the state had ever faced, surpassing previous weather-related catastrophes.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;I\u2019ve seen a lot of ag damage, especially with the apple crop up in Henderson County. We also have a lot of fruit and vegetable producers in that area,&#8221; he told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmprogress.com\/crops\/western-nc-crops-gone-in-worst-disaster-ever-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Southeast Farm Press<\/a> in an Oct. 3 telephone interview.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">In one case, Troxler said the river has changed course and is now going through the middle of a large bottomland.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;it\u2019s dangerous to even try to get to the fields,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Most of the crops are gone.
